Objetivos: Determinar la asociación entre polifarmacia y osteoporosis en una población de adultos mayores de 60 años. Materiales y métodos: Análisis secundario de un estudio observacional, analítico de corte transversal. 52 pacientes de 60 años a más fueron sometidos a una prueba de densitometría ósea. Se recogieron datos sociodemográficos, número de fármacos de consumo habitual, hábitos nocivos, comorbilidades e índice de masa corporal (IMC). El test Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), Índice de Barthel, cuestionario SARC-F y la medición de fuerza muscular también formaron parte de la evaluación. Resultados: Se registró frecuencia de polifarmacia (p=0,05) y promedio de consumo de fármacos (p=0,03) en participantes con osteopenia y osteoporosis. Al contrario de lo tradicionalmente aceptado, se halló un promedio de IMC más alto de forma estadísticamente significativa en participantes con osteopenia (p=0,01). No se encontró polifarmacia (0%) en mujeres con densidad mineral ósea (DMO) normal. Conclusiones: La presencia de polifarmacia en el paciente adulto mayor se asocia a una DMO patológica.
