La calidad del sueño tiene importancia capital en variables como la memoria, atención, plasticidad cerebral, el aprendizaje y el rendimiento escolar. El objetivo del presente estudio fue estimar la relación de la calidad del sueño con el rendimiento escolar en los alumnos del Plantel Dr. Ángel Ma. Garibay Kintana (PDAMGK) de la escuela preparatoria de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx). Participaron 372 alumnos de quinto semestre, 148 hombres (16.9 ± 0.5) y 224 mujeres (16.9 ± 0.4) a quienes se les aplicó en línea el cuestionario Índice de Calidad del Sueño de Pittsburgh. Sus resultados se correlacionaron con los promedios generales del primer examen parcial. Se halló que a pesar de que en su mayoría duermen más de 7 horas, los alumnos presentan un índice general de calidad regular del sueño, condición que es causada por factores perturbadores como despertares nocturnos, ruidos, entre otros, así como una latencia provocada por agentes como el televisor, el teléfono. Lo anterior se relaciona con la disfunción diurna de los estudiantes. Se encontró que la calidad del sueño está relacionada con el rendimiento académico (rho Spearman= 0.27, p<0.025), lo que nos lleva a estimar que la calidad del sueño es un buen predictor del desempeño escolar.
