En la agricultura orgánica se busca utilizar de manera sustentable los recursos que se disponen en la región, para así disminuir los costos de producción, especialmente los relacionados con la fertilización. El uso de abonos orgánicos es una alternativa para el logro de este propósito. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de estiércol bovino solarizado en la producción y calidad de frutos de tomate. Se utilizó un diseño bloques al azar con seis repeticiones; los tratamientos fueron cuatro dosis de estiércol solarizado (0, 40, 80, 120 t ha-1). No existió diferencia significativa para las variables altura de planta, número de frutos y rendimiento entre las distintas dosis de estiércol, sin embargo, con la aplicación de 120 ton ha-1 se incrementó en 60.14 y 64.17% el contenido de β-caroteno y antocianinas, en comparación al testigo, respectivamente. Se registraron diferencias significativas en pH y CE del suelo al final del ciclo del cultivo. El uso de estiércol solarizado es una opción sustentable para la producción de tomate en malla sombra, ya que se obtuvieron resultados similares sin la aplicación de la fertilización inorgánicos
