Las novelas El cuerpo en que nací de Guadalupe Nettel (México) y Sangre en el ojo de Lina Meruane (Chile) son autoficciones en las que la voz narrativa queda anclada entre la autora y la narradora-personaje que relata a partir de un ojo marcado; en el primer caso por un lunar y en el segundo, una retinopatía. La mirada narra la experiencia del cuerpo y del ojo desde la exclusión, pero también desde el espacio de la memoria del país ausente al cual se regresa. La tara física define el cuerpo, la identidad personal y la memoria del país.
