El libro se adentra en el análisis de problemáticas que cobran dimensión e importancia distinta a la habitual al ubicarse en el contexto de la metrópoli, ya sea por las razones administrativas que ello implica, ya por la complejidad de la raigambre social y cultural que acompaña a cada una de las partes que construyen el fenómeno metropolitano. Se trata de una visión académica y crítica que se sitúa como testigo de la noción contemporánea de lo urbano desde la perspectiva de sus componentes: vivienda, espacio público y patrimonio edificado. Asume que la construcción del futuro depende del cabal entendimiento de una cuestión compleja que se debe imaginar, gestionar y construir desde la cooperación solidaria de todos los actores intervinientes en los procesos cotidianos, en respeto y armonía con el territorio, el medio natural, los valores y afectos locales, además del conocimiento y aplicación de las tecnologías y herramientas actuales. Aborda lo metropolitano desde diferentes escalas de sitio: el lugar de actuación urbana a pequeña escala, el barrio, la ciudad y la región. Entiende que lo metropolitano es en sí la suma de diversas características urbanas que se agregan para construir un todo que es vivido y entendido de manera distinta y subjetiva. Esta obra compila una síntesis académica inacabada que deja interrogantes abiertas para poder ser continuadas en indagatoria y reflexión, permite el intercambio de voces y pensamientos entre investigadores de distintas corrientes y nacionalidades. Despierta la curiosidad y el ánimo de seguir investigando.
La investigación analiza los fundamentos teóricos de la Arquitectura Gaseosa que buscan dar respuesta a un habitar emergente, flexible y dinámico de la sociedad contemporánea. El concepto fue presentado por el arquitecto siciliano Emmanuel Lo Giudice en México, en abril 2018 en el Congreso Internacional de “Procesos Creativos” celebrado en la ciudad de Xalapa, Ver., México el cual resultó innovador para la academia. Se trata de un manifiesto en donde la arquitectura se deconstruye y se reduce conceptualmente a sus partes esenciales constituyendo un sistema dinámico, útil, independiente y de atmosfera volátil. Como investigadoras existe consciencia de que, a una década de cumplir con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible nos encontramos en un punto de inflexión buscando aún caminos y soluciones para atender las demandas del sistema habitacional. Habitamos un mundo polarizado, heterogéneo, que enfrenta una pandemia, una economía en contradicción, conflictos ambientales, grandes migraciones, desigualdades, pobreza, hambre e inseguridad. Partiendo del pacto mundial para la migración segura, ordenada y regular que reconoce el derecho de los migrantes a recibir salud y educación y considerando que durante su tránsito requieren de un alojamiento intermitente, emergente y resiliente, se busca no mostrar indiferencia y aportar alternativas desde la arquitectura como disciplina -que crea espacios para el hombre-. Es decir, generar propuestas de solución al fenómenos internacional migratorio que se agudiza cada vez más. Desde la academia se presentan propuestas de estudiantes de arquitectura de Brasil y México obtenidas a través de un concurso internacional convocado con el concepto de Arquitectura Gaseosa para hacer frente a los problemas migratorios, emergentes, ante desastres naturales y/o sociales derivados por la pandemia del COVID 19. Los resultados muestran l que es evidente y oportuno crear espacios sin territorialidad, emergentes, flexibles y móviles
