RESUMENObjetivo: analizar la relación entre felicidad y optimismo; así como determinar qué factores de la felicidad predicen mejor el optimismo. Método: Con un diseño descriptivo correlacional predictivo, se aplicaron las escalas de Felicidad de Lima (Alarcón, 2006) y de Optimismo Atributivo (Alarcón, 2013), a una muestra de 147 personas (68.7 % mujeres y 31.3% hombres), con un promedio de edad de 21 años, de las cuales el 72.8% tiene nacionalidad peruana y el 27.2% paraguaya. Resultados: el optimismo se relaciona positiva y significativamente con ausencia de sufrimiento profundo (r = .34, p < .01), satisfacción con la vida (r = .39, p < .01), realización personal (r = .38, p < .01) y alegría de vivir (r = -.40, p < .01). No se observan diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la felicidad y optimismo en relación al sexo y nacionalidad. Conclusión: los factores de la felicidad que predicen mejor el optimismo son las de alegría por vivir, realización personal y satisfacción por la vida, siendo la alegría por vivir el mejor predictor. To determine which factors of happiness predict optimism best. Method: This study follows a predictive, correlational and descriptive design. Happiness of Lima (Alarcon, 2006) and Attributive Optimism (Alarcon, 2013) scales were applied in a sample of 147 people (68.7% women, 31.3% men), with a 21-year-old age average. This sample was composed of 72.8% Peruvians and 27.2% Paraguayans. Results: Optimism is related positively and significantly to absence of deep distress (r = .34, p <.01), satisfaction with life (r = .39, p <.01), personal accomplishment (r = .38, p <.01) and joie de vivre (r = -.40, p <.01). No statistically significant differences in happiness and optimism regarding sex and nationality are observed. Conclusion: Happiness factors that best predict optimism are the joie de vivre, personal fulfillment and satisfaction with life, being the joie de vivre the best predictor.
