Una revisión bibliográfica sobre el espacio público, su evolución y uso a través del tiempo, permite conocer que actualmente existe un abandono del mismo y un cambio en la cultura social de la población, que ha dejado de lado el espacio público para desarrollar actividades individuales, situación que causa su abandono y deterioro. Con la finalidad de realizar una propuesta de mejora del espacio público de la ciudad de Guayaquil, se interviene en un barrio del nor-oeste de la ciudad, mediante una investigación acción y el uso del mural como recurso que permite la transmisión de un contenido, favorece el desarrollo expresiones artísticas, la reflexión, la sensibilidad y la concientización sobre las problemáticas sociales, convirtiéndolo en un museo a cielo abierto que brinda una herramienta para la inclusión y transformación social, ofreciendo la posibilidad de que muchas personas puedan acercarse, conocer, interpretar y apreciar cada uno de los símbolos, representantes de la cultura e identidad de su población. El análisis se realizó para un 95% de confiabilidad, un valor de Z= 1.96, con valores de p y q de 0.5 y un error de 0.05%; el tamaño de la muestra arrojó 94 instrumentos de medición de una población de 123 personas, habitantes en 30 viviendas, para un promedio de habitantes/vivienda de 4.1, donde más del 50% después de la intervención opinó que se mejoraron las condiciones físicas y la percepción de seguridad en el espacio urbano, además se evidenció que los habitantes participaron más en actividades de mejora de este espacio, quedando aún por mejorar la planificación y participación en actividades socio-culturales.
