A Dermatite Atópica é uma doença de pele crônica e inflamatória muito comum que pode ser identificada a partir dos seus sintomas característicos, são eles o ressecamento da pele e eritema, vermelhidão. A cascata inflamatória pode ser desencadeada pela exposição a proteínas alergênicas mesmo em baixíssimas quantidades, estimulando assim a alta produção da Imunoglobulina E, iniciando um processo agudo de inflamação. Hoje em dia, os tratamentos estão voltados para o alívio dos sintomas com o uso de algumas classes de medicamentos, dentre elas, pode-se mencionar os corticoides tópicos, de forma que é possível citar o furoato de mometasona creme a 0,1%. Existem também alguns tratamentos que agem no início do processo inflamatório, como os anticorpos monoclonais totalmente humanos, o dupilumabe, entretanto, possui um alto custo. Como alternativa, a fitoterapia pode ser utilizada. A camomila, Matricaria recutita, L., que é bastante utilizada na medicina tradicional, contém em sua estrutura fitoquímicos que possibilitam efeitos farmacológicos como o anti-inflamatório através da presença do α-Bisabolol e o camazuleno. O uso tópico do extrato de M. recutita, L., pode servir como tratamento para diminuir a inflamação e com baixa incidência de efeitos adversos. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estabelecer uma relação entre o uso da camomila e o alívio dos sintomas apresentados pelo paciente atópico, em substituição do uso dos corticoides tradicionais.
