Objetivo: caracterizar los pacientes con trombocitopenia en una institución de tercer nivel de complejidad en Medellín, Colombia. Materiales y métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, que incluyó todos los pacientes con diagnóstico relacionado con trombocitopenia atendidos en una institución de tercer nivel de complejidad en la ciudad de Medellín, durante el periodo de enero 2016 a diciembre 2017. Se realizó un muestreo no probabilístico de casos consecutivos. Resultados: fueron incluidos 25 pacientes. El 80% de estos (20) correspondió a <1 año y el 20% (5) a mayores de 18 años, el 52% (13) era de sexo masculino. La mediana de estancia hospitalaria en días de los adultos fue 10 con un percentil 25 (P25) de 5 y percentil 75 (P75) de 39, para los <1 año la mediana fue 32 (P25: 15,75 y P75: 53,25). El 80% (20) de los pacientes fue clasificado con trombocitopenia no especificada, el 20% (5) restante con trombocitopenia secundaria. El valor de plaquetas en adultos tuvo una mediana 95.000 células/mm3 (P25: 67.000 y P75: 122.00) y en <1 año la mediana fue de 79.000 células/mm3 (P25: 53.750 y P75: 109.750). Conclusiones: la trombocitopenia fue más común en menores de 1 año y en el sexo masculino, requiriendo estancias hospitalarias más largas. La trombocitopenia para ambos grupos se clasifica como leve y según su diagnóstico es no especificada.
Esta investigación tiene como objetivo principal hacer una reflexión sobre cómo se puede abordar la salud en pueblos indígenas de Colombia, a partir de la experiencia de educación en salud que ha tenido el grupo Piraguas de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana con la comunidad indígena Emberá. Este es un grupo de proyección social que busca impactar en la salud de las comunidades más vulnerables del país mediante una estrategia de formación en hábitos saludables, propiciando un diálogo de saberes entre la medicina ancestral y la medicina moderna, de manera que las comunidades puedan ser partícipes de su autocuidado basadas en las herramientas que tienen más accesibles. Este artículo brinda una amplia información sobre el contexto social y cultural de la comunidad Emberá y los métodos por los cuales se puede realizar un enfoque de interculturalidad en la salud en esta población, logrando una interacción simétrica de conocimientos y tradiciones bajo el respeto en busca de la complementariedad.
