There are a lot of factors determining the success of learning process. Leaning media is one of them that can contribute to the excellent learning process. In this digital era, infographic either digital or printed is regarded as a suitable media for speaking as it is able to help students to present effectively. The combination of brief information in points and graphics helps the students in delivering particular topics to the audience that also develops the students’ speaking skill. The infographic in this research was conducted in projects for mechanical engineering students. The topic chosen for the research was ‘describing the excellence of a city’. It is one of the topics written in the curriculum for English 1 subject. The research applied a case study in which the data collection was gathered using observation, interview, and questionnaires. The results indicated that the infographic project could facilitate the speaking activities. The students showed positive responses in creating infographic, working in group project-based learning (PBL), and presenting the infographic content. These conditions indicate that the infographic project was successfully employed to facilitate the students’ speaking activity.Â
The major purpose of this paper is to reveal how to implement English movies in teaching English as foreign Language to senior high school students. English as Foreign Language is implemented as the compulsory subject to learn in senior high school in Indonesia. Unfortunately, beyond the implementation, the fact that not all pupils enjoy learning English occurs. Realizing that fact, teachershould find a strategy to attract students attention to learn EFL. Moreover, using English movies to teach English can be the answer. In the application, teacher can use English movies to teach four skills. They include listening, speaking, and also writing skills. By using English movies, teacher can also teach grammar and introduce new vocabulary to students. Furthermore, the belief that everyone loves watching movies strengthens the teachers confidence to use English movies as an attractive strategy to teach English as a Foreign Language to senior high school students.DOI: https://doi.org/10.24071/llt.2015.180102
Nowadays, English proficiency to be one of the main requirements when someone continuous study and applies for a job. One of them is TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication). In SMK AAG Penerbangan Adisutjipto Yogyakarta, TOEIC is used to measure the students’ English proficiency. Various job vacancy advertisements require the applicants to achieve the standard TOEIC score. Therefore, preparation for taking English proficiency is needed to equip the students ready in facing the TOEIC test. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology can help to improve the students’ English proficiency. The use of AI becomes higher due to the advantages such as flexibility, accurateness, and direct feedback. This program applied AI technology to develop listening skill in TOEIC of the students in SMK AAG Penerbangan Adisutjipto Yogyakarta. The result from this community service is the students know the skills and strategies to do the listening skill in TOEIC test.
Vocational high schools (VHS) mainly prepare the students to engage in employment with a number of specific skills even though some students may continue to study in university/ college level. Various job vacancy advertisements require English skill in completing either the documents or interview. In competing the documents such as CV and cover letter, the students may adopt and adapt some templates even consult to the experts to get the best quality. However, in the interview, the students should perform themselves in live interaction. If the students are not well prepared, they may pass the documents selection but fail the interview step. Therefore, English job interview preparation is needed to equip the students ready in facing the job interview. Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) technology can help to improve the students’ speaking skill including job interview. The use of AI becomes higher due to the advantages such as flexibility, accurateness, and direct feedback. This program applied AI technology to develop English job interview skill in of the students in SMK AAG Penerbangan Adisutjipto Yogyakarta. The result was the selected AI successfully improved the students’ job interview skills indicated on the increased mark after applying the technology.
