El presente estudio busca analizar la relación entre estilo de vida y el síndrome metabólico en estudiantes universitarios, así como establecer si existen diferencias por sexo. Los participantes fueron 970 estudiantes (67.4% fueron mujeres y 32.6% hombres) seleccionados a partir de un muestreo aleatorio. Se evaluó el Estilo de vida (EV), la Obesidad central y el Síndrome metabólico (SM). Los resultados mostraron SM en 4.63% y obesidad en 36.65%, con mayor frecuencia en las mujeres. El EV predominante fue bueno y mejor en hombres que en mujeres, y la mayor frecuencia del SM fue en el EV malo. La relación entre género, obesidad, y SM fue significativa para la población estudiada. Se encontraron diferencias entre hombres y mujeres.
El propósito de este trabajo fue presentar los hallazgos de un programa de formación universitaria sobre estilos de vida saludables, empleando estrategias de aprendizaje cooperativo desarrollado en tres etapas que consistieron en: 1) un curso-taller acerca de las implicaciones personales y profesionales del estilo de vida, dirigido a dos grupos de estudiantes (de Medicina y de Psicología); 2) investigaciones de los estudiantes de Psicología sobre estilos de vida con diversas poblaciones, las cuales contribuyeron a la tercera etapa; 3) diseño, aplicación y evaluación de programas de intervención psicosocial en educación básica y superior. Bajo la metodología de la investigación-acción, se describen las vivencias de los implicados (alumnos y docentes), se presentan las reflexiones sobre el trabajo cooperativo y el impacto personal que permitió fortalecer la formación profesional. Los resultados describen las experiencias de los estudiantes y los docentes, la forma en que llegaron a reconocer el impacto de sus creencias sobre su salud, y la posibilidad de cambiar sus ideas y conductas habituales. Los alumnos reconocieron las ventajas del trabajo cooperativo y de la aplicación de las estrategias en sus propias vidas, previo al diseño/aplicación y evaluación de un programa de intervención. Se registró un logro personal y profesional, así como a nivel de comunidad educativa. Palabras clave: Estilo de vida saludable, aprendizaje cooperativo, investigación-acción.
Se contrastan las diferencias en sintomatología depresiva entre mexicanos de dos polos urbanos importantes, analizando la predicción de la depresión a partir de los perfiles afectivos y variables sociodemográficas. Método. Participaron 1036 estudiantes, 431 del centro de México y 605 del noreste. Se evaluó la sintomatología depresiva mediante el CES-D-20 y perfil afectivo con el PANAS-20. Resultados. Hay una alta prevalencia de sintomatología depresiva en los participantes, con diferencia significativa entre los grupos. En el grupo del centro la depresión es predicha por el perfil de afecto autodestructivo, afecto alto, así como hábitos no saludables, mientras que en el noreste coincide en los primeros dos predictores diferenciándose porque se incorpora en el modelo el menor sentido de autorrealización. Conclusión. Nuestro estudio sugiere diferencias en la manifestación de la depresión por zona geográfica, con un perfil afectivo autodestructivo y de afecto alto. Es de interés resaltar que el perfil afectivo alto puede enmascarar la forma de manifestar la depresión, ya que se les puede considerar como personas extrovertidas y por tanto, subestimar el malestar emocional que puedan estar presentando. Este aspecto es fundamental en la mejor comprensión de la depresión en el campo clínico.
