<p> </p><p><span> </span><strong>Introducción: </strong>La estética de la sonrisa es importante en la autopercepción de cualquier persona; sin embargo, evaluar la estética de la misma se vuelve subjetivo. En odontología se han establecido ciertos parámetros para una valoración más objetiva; uno de éstos es el ángulo de inclinación de los incisivos superiores. <strong>Objetivo: </strong>Determinar si la inclinación incisal superior influye en la percepción estética de la sonrisa, en una vista de perfil, por parte de un grupo de expertos en el área de Ortodoncia, rehabilitación oral y de gente común. <strong>Material y métodos: </strong>Se seleccionó a una estudiante de postgrado de la UNAM de 30 años de edad, originaria de México; presentaba perfil recto y armónico, líneas medias coincidentes, clase I esqueletal, molar y canina y una inclinación del incisivo superior en norma. Se tomó una fotografía de perfil y se realizaron siete modificaciones en la angulación de los incisivos superiores de cada fotografía. Se realizaron 90 encuestas en la CDMX. En el análisis estadístico se ejecutaron las pruebas de ANOVA, y Fisher & Tuckey. <strong>Resultados: </strong>Existió una diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre los tres grupos en la percepción estética de la sonrisa de acuerdo con el grado de inclinación incisal. No hubo soporte científico para asignar a un grado de inclinación específico como mejor. <strong>Conclusiones: </strong>La profesión del encuestado determina la apreciación de la sonrisa y la inclinación del incisivo superior influye en la apreciación estética de una sonrisa vista de perfil.</p>
