<p>Se realizó un estudio transversal, con el objetivo<br />de evaluar la higiene oral de niños que concurrieron<br />al Centro de Atención al Desarrollo de la Infancia<br />y adolescencia en la ciudad de Corrientes (período:<br />septiembre 2017-2018). La muestra quedó conformada<br />por 100 niños de 2 a 13 años de edad, a<br />los cuales se realizó la historia clínica odontológica,<br />luego de que sus respectivos tutores expresaran su<br />consentimiento. El examen clínico reveló higiene<br />oral deficiente en el 81% de los menores. Se halló<br />una correlacionó positiva entre la edad de los niños<br />y el valor del índice de placa bacteriana (p= 0,012).<br />La prueba del chi cuadrado no mostró diferencias<br />significativas relacionadas a la higiene oral entre niñas<br />y niños (p = 0,544). La higiene oral de los menores<br />con y sin caries dental, mostró diferencias estadísticamente<br />significativas (p=0,00). Los resultados<br />obtenidos muestran la necesidad de implementar<br />programas de promoción de la salud y prevención<br />de enfermedades orales, tendientes a mejorar la higiene<br />oral y el estado de las piezas dentarias en este<br />grupo poblacional vulnerable.</p>
