RESUMO -Este trabalho relata experiência vivida por alunos e professo res de enfermagem psiquiátrica da Universidade Católica de Goiás em um Sanatório de Goiânia entre 1987 e 1989. O propósito foi sugerir ações prio ritárias de saúde à comunidade e oferecer oportunidades ao enfermeiro (do sexo masculino) previdente fornecer cuidados de enfermagem alternativos sob padrão sistemático. A estratégia posta em uso foi contactar a população alvo quando aguardavam consultas médicas. O resultado foi considerado significante quanto à performace dos enfermeiros d() sexo masculino na educação à saúde. A última parte apresenta sugestões para este tipo de prá tica a ser aprefeiçoada e fortalecida.ABSTRACT -This work reports the experience which students and teachers of Psychiatric Nursing at Catholic University of Goiás lived through, at the Goiania Sanitation Unite, between 1987 and 1989. The purpose has been to suggest prime action in health to community, wit h the view to meet its basic needs related more closely to Mental Health, and offer opportunities to prospective male nurse fornish alternative nursing care under sistematic pattern. The strategy that has been put into use was to meet with target population when it was waiting for medicai appointments. The outcome has been considered as meaningful for male nurse's performace in-nealth education. The last part presents suggestions for this kind of practice to be pe.rfected and strengthened.
