Disgust sensitivy: Concept and relationship with fears and anxiety disordersAbstract: There is an increasing research interest on the role of disgust in psychopathology. Although in the last few years one major area of research has investigated the role of disgust in anxiety disorders and anxiety disorder symptoms, this line of research is not without controversy. In this work we accomplish an evaluative review on relationship between disgust sensitivity and some anxiety symptoms, fears and anxiety disorders. Following a clarification of the concept of disgust as a basic emotion, we examine it association with symptoms and disorders related to specific phobias (i.e., phobias to «repulsive animals» -including spider phobias-and blood-injection-injury phobias) and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Finally, we discuss some emerging issues such as the role of disgust domains, the separation between propensity and sensitivity, and the position of disgust propensity/sensitivity as a vulnerability factor in the hierarchic model of fears (S. Taylor, 1998;.Keywords: Disgust sensitivity, disgust propensity, fears, phobias, spider phobia, blood-injectioninjury phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, contamination fear, anxiety disorders. nación y la enfermedad (Rozin y Fallon, 1987).
Preventing burnout in organizations:The preventing cbeckup of Leiter and Maslach (2000) Burnout is reaching epidemic proportions in the workplace. Several empirical studies of the effect of stress and burnout on health have shown serious consequences for workers and organizations. Until now, most of the intervention programs in reducing the effects of burnout were individual and focused on person's crisis. During the last years it has been more evident the need to transform variables related to the working conditions itself, specially in those v^rorkplaces where the risk of burnout v^rere probably to occur. Leiter and Maslach (2000) developed a procedure to evalúate the risky áreas of the organization and start, with the result of an evaluation and intervention program aimed to change those organizational conditions and to diminish the probability of burnout. The objective of this article is to present this intervention procedure and to discuss its characteristics in contrast to other ways of intervention.
Prevention of negative emotions in Adolescence: Evaluation of cognitive-behavioral techniquesThis study presents data about the efficacy of teaching different strategies (training in self-esteem relaxation, social skills training and problem solving) in order to diminish depression and anxiety levéis in an adolescent general population sample. Epidemiological studies performed on developed societies show an increase of emotional problems at this stage of Ufe. The goal of our work is the assessment and solution of these problems. To assess the effectivity of the intervention, we applied a prevention program on a sample formed by 225 adolescents with an average age of 13,22 belonging to two different groups: intervention and comparation. Both of groups have similar age, sex and Social Economical State (SES). A statistical analyses vías carried out in order to determine the predictive weight of each of the program's modules in decreasing anxiety and depression levéis. Our results show that anxiety levéis are reduced through relaxation training and social skills improvement. On the other hand, social skills improvement was the only type of intervention that had no effect in decreasing depression levéis.
