AbstractThe present article aims to address the influence between the index of vegetation and edification with respirable particulate matter levels (PM 2.5μm) and atmospheric conditions in areas used for sports and leisure practices in the urban center of Fortaleza, CE, with a view to improving or worse weather conditions at locations predominantly occupied by vegetation or buildings. Thus, primary data of the concentrations of PM2.5 with active sampling and meteorological data were collected with a portable meteorological station in 7 sampling points distributed in the Municipality. The vegetation and edification indexes were made through ArcGIS Software, consisting of the mapping and delimitation of the coverage area by crowns of trees and buildings at the selected sampling points. Thus, the statistical correlation of the data was performed, where as a result the types of correlations were found, classifying them as positive or negative and strong or weak. Thus, this work allowed to observe the influence between the concentrations of PM2.5 in the atmosphere and the meteorological variables, and the relation of the indices constructed with PM2.5 and with the wind speed. Keywords: atmospheric pollution, urban vegetation, verticalization, particles, meteorological factors
Use of geostatistics in the assessment of respirable particulate matter distribution in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará A B S T R A C TIn urban centers, the main anthropogenic pollution sources are derived from vehicular traffic and when present, from industrial activity. Such problems make urban air pollution one of the main degradation factors of the population's quality of life. Among the variables that influence the transportion and diffusion of pollutants, one of them is the weather conditions, where the occurrence of winds and rainfall can interfere with the time the pollutants stay in the atmosphere. Therefore, the study aimed to evaluate the distribution of the levels of respirable particulate matter (RPM) in the city of Fortaleza. The study area included nine locations geographically distributed by city. The map of RPM concentration was obtained from a geostatistical interpolation proposal called Ordinary Kriging (KO) worked on in a Geographic Information System (GIS). It was ratified that precipitation decreases the concentration of the pollutant, reducing the particulate residence time in the air and the buildings impair the action of the winds in the dispersion of the MPR. The maps produced warn of air quality in some locations of Fortaleza, which is justified by the intense vehicular flow, coupled with the effect of urban canyons in this region.
Geographical characterization and land use dynamics of Ibiapaba and surroundings, Phytogeographic Domain of Caatinga A B S T R A C TDry forests are beyond the most threatened ecosystems, which includes the remarkable Caatinga. Inside Caatinga ecosystem the Ibiapaba region has been considered as priority to conservation and has facing land use changes in the past years due to urbanization, agriculture, and cattle raising. These changes has been intensified because of new enterprises as wind will farms. Thereby, fragmentation and habitat loss are among the most aggressive human impacts. Whereas Ibiapaba is an area with high priority to Caatinga conservation, this research aims describe a general physical and phytoecology characterization to Ibiapaba, map land uses differences, and measure the vegetation cover loss at phytoecological areas among 15 years. The land use and cover mapping were built from satellites images using supervised classification as a result from Random Forest method applied on Google Earth Engine platform. This methodology allowed build comparative maps for land use in the years 2005, 2007, 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2020 as well as extract tabular data. Therefore, despite the observed growth of anthropic areas Ibiapaba does not have marked changes as other parts of Caatinga. In addition, Ibiapaba has unique opportunity to build a protection project more effective to these ecosystems insert on Brazilian semiarid. Keywords: digital image processing, Caatinga, supervised classification, random forest
Introduction: Regular physical activity and outdoor leisure provide significant health benefits. In urban environments, issues related to the air microbiological quality have become a priority due to the pandemic situation we are experiencing. This study analyzed the aerial microbiota of outdoor public spaces, using a qualitative and quantitative approach in Brazilian coastal town. Materials and methods: Three intra-urban areas were analyzed and characterizing according the thermo-hydrometric characteristics and vegetal cover. Bioaerosols were collected during the wet and dry seasons using the passive sampling technique with selective growth media for fungi and bacteria. Microbial groups were quantified on agar plates; colonies were randomly selected, purified and classified. The antibiotic resistance was evaluated against 6 antibiotics belonging to 6 classes. Results: Bacteria were relatively more frequent than fungi in the three areas. Among isolates, bacteria represented from 76% (P1) to 90% (P3) of the suspended microbiota in the rainy season; in dry season, the percentages varied from 87% (P1) to 91% (P2 and P3). Genus Bacillus was the main representative of Gram positive and Enterobacter genus the most frequently identified among Gram-negative bacteria. Aspergillus and Penicillium genera were the dominant among fungi. Fifty per cent from bacterial strains analyzed were resistant to at least one of the tested antimicrobials. Conclusion: Bacteria proved more abundant than fungi and more susceptible to climate and environmental changes in the leisure areas of the city. The monitoring of biological agents in the air is important for environmental management and population health.
