IntroduçãoO modelo de desenvolvimento adotado pela sociedade contemporânea, com o rápido progresso da Ciência e da Tecnologia, conquistou o poder de transformar de inúmeras maneiras e em escala sem precedentes o meio ambiente 2 . A produção de novas substâncias químicas sem a avaliação completa de sua periculosidade proporcionou e proporciona diversas ameaças ambientais.A classificação e comunicação do perigo de substâncias químicas podem atender a inúmeros propósitos, sejam eles: no ambiente ocupacional para gestão do risco químico; para a comunidade em geral quando afetada indiretamente por derramamentos, acidentes químicos e contaminação crônica; na área agrícola para aplicação e descarte de embalagens de praguicidas; para o governo na gestão da qualidade ambiental e risco químico, entre tantas outras.Existem diversos sistemas para classificação de perigos, que atendem a objetivos distintos. Neste artigo serão abordados alguns deles e serão discutidos aspectos relevantes à comunicação de perigo.
