RESUMO Pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa que objetivou descrever a percepção de 9 cuidadores e 126 responsáveis sobre determinantes sociais da saúde de crianças em uma creche filantrópica de uma capital do Nordeste do Brasil. Água não tratada, má alimentação e saneamento básico precário foram apontados como principais causas de doenças. Consultas médicas, vacinas, boa alimentação, higiene e trabalho apareceram como fatores de proteção do adoecimento. Quando às crianças adoecem os cuidadores e os responsáveis recorrem ao posto de saúde de seu bairro. A educação em saúde teve importância realçada como ferramenta para manter a qualidade de saúde das crianças. Esses resultados poderão resultar no planejamento de ações com estratégias de promoção à saúde específicas para as creches.
