The article proposes some reflections and relations between the history of the Minimum Curriculum of Industrial Design and some characteristics that constituted the history of the Brazilian field of design. This article is a historical study of a theoretical-analytical nature about the Revista da Cidade, from Recife -Pernambuco (1926-1930. It seeks to identify and observe the possible graphic representations on the covers of the periodical that reflect an idea of Brazilian cultural identity. This is an excerpt from a master's thesis still in progress. Cover selection criteria were established throughout the magazine's existence, and the corpus was analyzed from the semantic perspective of aesthetic-formal elements (VILLAS-BOAS, 2009), typography (FARIAS, 2016) and image (GOLDSMITH, 1984). As a result of this research, it can be said that there were representations of several projects of Brazilian cultural identity in the period of existence of the magazine, and that the graphic designer acted in these covers as a symbolic intellectual mediator of the same.
