Zusammenfassung. Depressionen gehören zu den häufigsten Erkrankungen überhaupt und zu den fünf häufigsten Krankheiten in der Hausarztpraxis. Die Hausarztpraxis ist meist die erste Anlaufstelle für depressive Patienten und hat somit eine Schlüsselrolle in der Früherkennung und Erstbehandlung von Depressionen. Eine depressive Störung kann sich mit diffusen, unspezifischen und meist somatischen Beschwerden präsentieren. Es wird nur etwa die Hälfte der depressiven Störungen in der Hausarztpraxis erkannt. Eine nichterkannte und unbehandelte Depression kann für den Patienten fatale Folgen haben. Einmal erkannt, ist eine depressive Störung behandelbar. Ein wichtiger Screening-Test zur Früherkennung der Depression ist der Zwei-Fragen-Test (Sensitivität 96 %, Spezifität 57 %).
