RESUMOuso de modelos prescritivos na solução de problemas e na tomada de decisão, dentro das organizações, tem sido criticado e até sugeridos os seus descartes, na medida em que atribui-se à intuição e às heurísticas um papel principal além da racionalidade ser limitada. Para evidenciar a importância e o espaço destes modelos no ambiente organizacional, com ênfase para os Métodos de Identificação, Análise e Solução de Problemas(MIASPs), desenvolveu-se este artigo em quatro partes. Na primeira delas faz-se a introdução ao tema estudado. Na segunda parte, que trata da solução de problemas, aborda-se a diferença entre solução de problema e tomada de decisão. Trazem-se os diversos conceitos de problema e os três momentos das pesquisas em solução de problemas. Na terceira parte abordam-se não só o Método dito Científico mas também os MIASPs. Na quarta e última parte, constrói-se o espaço dos MIASPs a partir dos limites existentes na racionalidade, da conseqüente reinterpretação dos mecanismos de busca(de opções na solução de problemas) e satisfação quando uma ou mais opções são aplicadas, e, por último, do uso das heurísticas e da intuição na solução de problemas e na tomada de decisão.
