The experiment was done in protected environment using randomized blocks, with five treatments (0, 60, 120,180 and 240 kg ha -1 of N) and four replications. The source of N was the urea, divided in seven equal parts applied to the 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19 and 21 days after the transplant (DAT), through drip irrigation. The doses of N applied influenced the studied variables. The fresh mass of the aerial part, the mass evaporated from the aerial part, the number of leaves and the yield decreased with the nitrogen increase.
