Quando o funcionamento dos rins é insuficiente para manter a vida, os pacientes com Doença Renal Crônica podem ser submetidos à terapia renal substitutiva. A hemodiálise é uma técnica de purificação extracorpórea que substitui parcialmente algumas das funções dos rins; e que engloba alterações do cotidiano do paciente. Desse modo, a pesquisa busca avaliar o impacto causado pelo processo de hemodiálise em crianças, para elas mesmas e para seus familiares e/ou cuidadores. Trata-se de um estudo secundário e transversal de revisão da literatura utilizando como banco de dados as plataformas da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), PubMed e Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Foram utilizados os descritores: Diálise Renal e Criança, em todas as plataformas. Seis artigos foram avaliados que tratam sobre o impacto causado pelo processo de hemodiálise. A realização da hemodiálise em pacientes pediátricos representa grande impacto social tanto para os pacientes quanto para seus familiares e/ou cuidadores, que apresentam grau de sobrecarga moderado e índices de depressão e ansiedade maiores do que a população geral.
