A Chlamydia trachomatis é uma bactéria sexual que causa cerca de 92 milhões de novos casos anualmente no mundo e pode resultar em Doença Inflamatória Pélvica (DIP) e infertilidade. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a prevalência da infecção sexual por C. trachomatis em mulheres atendidas por projeto de extensão de uma universidade pública de Belém, estado do Pará. Este é um estudo piloto transversal e propesctivo que incluiu mulheres atendidas no período de janeiro a março de 2019. Variáveis sociais, epidemiológicas e de queixas ginecológicas foram coletadas em questionário próprio e a colheita da secreção endocervical foi realizada durante o exame de Papanicolau. A extração de DNA foi procedida por meio de Kit padronizado e seu controle ocorreu pela Reação em Cadeia Polimerase (PCR) de 268pb do gene da β-globina humana. Para a detecção da infecção foi feita a amplificação de 394pb do gene ompA de C. trachomatis por meio de PCR. O teste Odds ratio foi utilizado para verificar o risco de infecção, de acordo com as variáveis estudadas. O p-valor ≤0,05 (intervalo de confiança de 95%) foi considerado-para significância das análises. A prevalência da infecção foi de 3,4% nas 86 mulheres investigadas, as quais tinham media de idade de 42,9 anos ± 11,7 anos. Nenhuma das variáveis investigadas se destacou significativamente, provavelmente devido ao baixo número amostral. A prevalência de infecção sexual por C. trachomatis se mostra baixa em mulheres de idade mais madura.
