El quelite de árbol es una especie silvestre comestible perteneciente a la familia Fabaceae, que se distribuye en climas cálido húmedos desde Centro América hasta el Sureste de México. Actualmente el uso y aceptación del quelite como hortaliza tropical es significativa debido a que se usa en gran cantidad de comidas típicas de Tabasco y como forraje para ganado. Con base en estadísticas de la Revista Biología Tropical de Costa Rica en el 2002, los estudios sobre morfología y anatomía de especies tropicales son escasos y Senna papillosa no es la excepción. El objetivo de este trabajo fue identificar, describir y analizar las particularidades morfológicas y anatómicas de Senna palillosa. Para el estudio morfológico se observaron y describieron los órganos y para el estudio anatómico se siguió la metodología de Ana De Ambrogio, aplicando las técnicas de fijación, deshidratación, clarificación, inclusión, corte, coloración, montaje y por último observaciones y toma de fotografías con microscopio óptico. Entre los resultados obtenidos, se pueden citar de manera particular que presenta tallos trisurcados (acanalados), hojas compuestas de tipo paripinadas conformadas por cuatro foliolos con una pequeña estructura cónica que se encuentra entre los dos primeros peciolulos y está presente desde que la hoja es joven hasta su madurez. La inflorescencia es de tipo cimosa simple con un sólo pedúnculo que da origen a una triada floral. El fruto es una legumbre con dehiscencia longitudinal y que por el tipo de textura es de tipo pergaminosa. La semilla es de tipo exalbuminosa, lisa de color café. La anatomía del tallo de Senna papillosa presenta fragmentos de cristales de oxalato de calcio en su interior distribuidos en la periferia de la médula, con esto, se establece la existencia del catión calcio en la composición de los cristales presentes en Senna papillosa. De igual manera se presentaron traqueidas anilladas, las cuales se distinguieron por tener forma de espiral y apariencia gelatinosa. Los resultados indican que cada especie tiene particularidades y contenidos específicos que deben ser identificados.
