AbstractPurpose -This research aims to describe sustainability practices adopted by companies and the influence they have with the involvement of stakeholders. Design/methodology/approach -Qualitative investigation, using case study methodology, was undertaken in 17 companies that use strategic sustainability practices in some way. The companies were observed under the theoretical perspective of social responsibility and sustainability, and with the approach of strategic practices. Findings -Interpreting the data produces an alternative framework of analysis for strategic organizational activities oriented toward the understanding of practices of sustainability, especially in processes aimed at catering to and/or involving stakeholders. The research further supports the idea that sustainability practices, regardless of their level of implementation, have a strong relationship, in these companies, with stakeholder interests. Originality/value -The intent is that the proposed analytical framework will allow further debate toward better understanding of actions focused on environmental determinism and internal company conditions.
A importância do indivíduo na construção, manutenção e mudança das instituições caracteriza as teorias das práticas sociais. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o perfil e o envolvimento dos estrategistas nas práticas de responsabilidade social. Parte-se da identificação do papel, agência, experiência e características dos praticantes que atuam na certificação ambiental de empresas brasileiras. A discussão dos resultados tem como base os conceitos de responsabilidade social corporativa e da teoria da estratégia como prática. A pesquisa foi feita em duas etapas. Na primeira, de caráter qualitativo e exploratório, um estudo de caso foi realizado na empresa Suzano Papel e Celulose. Na etapa seguinte, desenvolveu-se um levantamento quantitativo em 23 empresas, que representam 41% da população de empresas certificadas. O trabalho contribui ao destacar as diferentes dimensões do perfil dos praticantes e sua relação com a coletividade de práticas e seu envolvimento com o processo de certificação. AbstractT he importance of the individual in the construction, maintenance, and change of institutions characterizes Social Practice Theory. The purpose of this study is to analyze the profile and involvement of strategists in social responsibility. This begins with the identification of the role, agency, experience, and characteristics of the practitioners who operate in the environmental certification of Brazilian companies. The discussion of the results is based on the concepts of corporate social responsibility and the theory of Strategy as Practice. The study was conducted in two phases. In the first stage, consisting of a qualitative and exploratory nature, a case study was implemented at the Suzano Paper and Cellulose Company. In the second stage, a quantitative survey of 23 companies was conducted.
O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o modelo de negócio das ventures builders que apoiam o desenvolvimento das startups. Uma a cada quatro startups brasileiras encerram suas atividades em um ano e o percebido é que empreendedores têm dificuldades no acesso a fontes de financiamentos e conhecimento para novos negócios. Há estudos que discutem mecanismos de apoio a startups, como operações de venture capital e atuação de aceleradoras. Porém, são escassas as pesquisas que discutem o modelo de negócio das venture builders. O estudo tem abordagem qualitativa, com caso único, de natureza exploratória e descritiva. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e documentos. A técnica de análise adotada foi a análise de conteúdo com auxílio do software Atlas.ti. Os principais resultados encontrados foram nos quatro elementos do modelo de negócio da organização. Na proposição de valor, a venture builder cria valor ao seu cliente compartilhando conhecimento e disponibilizando recursos financeiros. Na fórmula de lucro, ao mesmo tempo em que a venture builder entrega valor para o cliente, cria valor para si, pois adquire participação societária da startup. Nos recursos-chave, as pessoas têm um papel essencial para o compartilhamento de conhecimento e o alcance das metas estipuladas. Por fim, o processo-chave envolve execução de serviços especializados e mentorias direcionadas. Assim, as principais características que diferenciam o modelo de negócio da venture builder analisada são o tempo de duração do processo, a execução dos serviços operacionais e o networking.
ResumoEste trabalho é proveniente de uma pesquisa realizada em um condomínio de empresas de base tecnológica e tem por objetivo analisar de que forma os recursos compartilhados entre as empresas no condomínio contribuem para a geração de vantagem competitiva sustentável para as suas empresas. A pesquisa descritiva em forma de estudo de caso utilizou dados secundários e primários para a análise, os quais revelaram que não são apenas as diferenças dos recursos e as capacidades individuais das empresas os determinantes da competitividade, mas também a existência de um ambiente e de relações de alianças colaborativas no uso dos recursos é parte da natureza competitiva de suas empresas. Os empresários das empresas participantes do condomínio foram unânimes em destacar que as suas empresas são mais beneficiadas em suas capacidades competitivas pelos recursos compartilhados, entre as demais empresas, do que prejudicadas pela concorrência interna possivelmente existente. AbstractThis paper is a result of a research realized in a condominium of technological companies. It intends to analyze the contribution of the shared resources to the generation of sustainable competitive advantage. The finds showed that the individual capacity of the companies, the differences of each kind of resource and the collaborative alliances are determinants for the competitiveness. The entrepreneurs were unanimous to confirm that all of the companies are more benefited in their competitive capacity than injured for a possible internal competition. Moreover, the analyze of the data suggests a intense relationship among the features of intangibility and dynamism of the resources, what can create opportunities during long periods and consequently generate sustainable competitive advantage for the companies members of the condominium.
Software activities demand organizations that are able to apply their technological capabilities. Despite of the Brazilian technical capability in this field had been internationally recognized by good results, the incentives given to this industry were not enough to allow the country to achieve the export pre-established goals. The aim of this study is to assess the role of technological capability in software-products and services-export performance. The initial expectation was that the technological capability level would feature a meaningful contribution in expanding international business and lead to a positive correlation in export results. For the analysis, 488 companies of the Brazilian software industry were selected from the SEPIN/MCT database. The correlation between technological capability and export performance was observed in aspects related to encouragement incentive procedures and also the contribution of new products to the revenue.
Purpose: To understand how Embrapa Forestry Unit structure its business model to manage better the issues inherent to open innovation, oriented to the management of technology, science delimiting the elements of business models, and inbound and outbound open innovation and their aspects related to impact model. Originality/value: Embrapa Forestry is a research unit focused on technological research in the commercial and non-commercial forestry sector. The central objective of this work was to evaluate how a public company manages its business model in the practical exercise of open innovation. Design/methodology/approach: In order to understand the company’s business model, we adopted the perspective of triangulated single case study between semi-structured interviews and secondary data review based on reports and memos. This is all due to the technological relevance that used open innovation to design a model that today we understand as business models and impact business model, with the data collected and analyzed using the Atlas.ti software. Findings: The results indicate that the importance of Embrapa in the technological scenario in Brazilian agriculture has a significant socioeconomic impact. As a variant, we recognize that, for future research, other theoretical models could be used or adapted to the Brazilian empirical context to understand other organizational elements not addressed in the present study, which can explore cultural relations of the organization and the constitution of sense and meanings in the context of the innovation in public research companies.
The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the effects of strategic, technical and institutional response, in the perspective of dynamic capability facing environmental changes, considering that the literature has few references on how institutional factors contribute to a firm's dynamic capabilities. A case study was conducted on the oldest journalistic enterprise in Brazil. It was found that the organizational practices with dynamic capabilities were conditioned by mechanisms and factors that have extrapolated intentions, expectations, and planning skills of the firm's own Board of Directors. The new social structure found in the organization is based on the interpretations of the journalists themselves, regarding the social reality of the field of journalism, was supported by the coherent interpretative schemata of some managers in order to reduce the uncertainty caused by institutional demands of the rapidly changing reading habits of people. The study revealed that strategic practices such as making the newspaper known at schools, development of a digital newspaper, showed the influence of institutions as a new normative order, social responsibility, greater legitimacy, and at the same time, a higher capacity of the organization to adapt to its business environment. These aspects, reflect a cultural structure that is reproduced at the company in its practices for the continuous use of new technologies and new social demands.Keywords: Dynamic Capabilities. Capacidades dinâmicas de um ponto de vista institucionalista ResumoO objetivo deste artigo é elucidar os efeitos das respostas estratégica, técnica e institucional na perspectiva das capacidades dinâmicas tendo em vista as mudanças ambientais, considerando que a literatura tem apresentado poucas referências sobre como os fatores institucionais contribuem para a capacidade dinâmica. Um estudo de caso foi realizado na mais antiga empresa jornalística no Brasil. Identificou-se que as práticas organizacionais, na perspectiva da capacidade dinâmica são condicionadas por mecanismos e fatores que extrapolam intenções, expectativas e habilidades de planejamento anteriores da Diretoria. A nova estrutura social da organização, desvelada pelo estudo, baseada na interpretação dos próprios jornalistas, a respeito da realidade social do campo do jornalismo, apoiado pela interpretação coerente de alguns dos gestores, foi sendo institucionalizada ao se buscar reduzir as incertezas causadas pela rápida mudança nos hábitos de leitura das pessoas. O estudo revelou que novas práticas estratégicas, tais como levar o jornal a ser conhecido por escolares e o desenvolvimento de um jornal digital, demonstraram a institucionalização de novas ordens normativas com maior responsabilidade social, maior legitimidade e, ao mesmo tempo, maior capacidade da organização em se adaptar ao novo ambiente de negócio.
