AbstractHabitat fragmentation causes loss of biodiversity and may alter the reproductive patterns of the species. Phenological studies help understanding the cyclical events of vegetables and ecosystem dynamic. The objectives were to correlate reproductive events with climate variables, classify the species and the ecological succession and dispersal syndromes and compare the reproductive patterns between edge and interior. Were followed 155 individuals (96 edge and 59 interior), between August/2008 and August/2010 on monthly observations of reproductive phenophases using the activity index and intensity of Fournier. The production of flowers and fruits was observed over the years, with the fruiting longer duration than flowering. Reproductive events were more intense on the edge. Intensity Fournier was similar to that of phenophases activity index. The pattern community was "steady state" and continued, with the majority of annual species. Edge and interior had the same time of occurrence of phenophases, but the activity and the intensity of reproductive individuals were higher on edge. Pioneer species were more common in edge and secondary in interior. Zoochory was more frequent in both areas. Not significant correlations between the phenology and the climate were found, suggesting the action of other factors for induction of reproduction.
O principal dispersor é Elaenia cristata (Aves: Tyrannidae).
Anurans with direct development are among the most difficult species for conducting studies concerning ecology and natural history. This paper provides information on the reproduction of Adelophryne maranguapensis, a threatened species endemic to Serra de Maranguape, an Atlantic Forest relict surrounded by dry Caatinga phytophysiognomies. Our objectives were to identify the reproductive periods, verify any preference for breeding sites, review the reproductive mode and describe parental care. The species reproduces during the rainy season and is not selective as to the species of bromeliad used for oviposition. This is the first report of parental care for the genus since females demonstrate egg attendance until the formation of the gel layer in all the eggs. We revisit the terms that define the reproductive mode of this species and propose the need to redefine it. The redefinition considers: (1) deposition of bromeligen and non-aquatics eggs around the phytotelm; (2) direct development; (3) parental care with egg attendance by the female.

Vriesea baturitensis is described and illustrated as a new species. It is compared with V. friburgensis and V. rodigasiana, which we consider to be morphologically the most related species. The new taxon occurs in isolated Atlantic forest patches along the Baturité mountain range, in central-north Ceará state, Northeastern Brazil. It is characterized by the compact and regular rosette, a rounded leaf apex, stiff and erect peduncle, peduncle and primary bracts bright yellow, and the particular colors and sizes of the floral bracts and sepals. The humid habitat where the new species was found, known in Brazil as brejo de altitude, is surrounded by the Caatinga (Brazilian dry woodland) and due to its climatic conditions supports a rich flora of epiphytes. In Pico Alto we collected and photographed six different species of bromeliads, two of each being Guzmania and Vriesea, one of each being Aechmea and Racinaea. We conclude that the area of Pico Alto is an important remnant of humid forest and conservation measures to protect its epiphytes are urgently needed.
