Este artigo relata os resultados de uma parceria de sucesso entre Universidade e Empresa. A motivação inicial desta parceria foi o desejo de disponibilizar aos engenheiros da empresa uma formação em nível de mestrado. Este processo conduziu ao desenvolvimento de um estudo acerca da influência dos reatores eletrônicos de partida programada na vida útil das lâmpadas fluorescentes T5, a partir do qual se fundamentou a concepção de um novo reator eletrônico comercial que garante a vida útil da lâmpada (20.000 h) conforme as especificações do fabricante. Este estudo compreende a discussão de dois tipos de testes rápidos de vida útil descritos na bibliografia e utilizados pelos fabricantes nacionais de reatores eletrônicos, buscando verificar o comportamento das lâmpadas fluorescentes T5 sob diferentes métodos de acionamento. Um novo produto industrial, constituído por um reator eletrônico de partida rápida programada com pré-aquecimento de tensão, é desenvolvido para uma lâmpada fluorescente T5 de 28 W. Os resultados demonstram que a topologia proposta para o reator fornece as condições necessárias para que a lâmpada atinja a sua expectativa de vida bem como para permitir o aumento da eficiência energética.
