Analisamos a incidência de Covid-19 entre jogadores do gênero masculino dos clubes participantes no campeonato brasileiro de futebol (Brasileirão) de 2020. Observamos um alto índice de infecção em relação à população geral, cerca de 13 vezes no período, denotando que os clubes atuam com clusters infecciosos eficientes.
A atual pandemia da Covid-19 inaugurou uma nova política global de controle da aceleração do contágio para garantir assistência médica a todos os casso graves. Entretanto, com a atual conectividade mundial e a exploração cada vez mais agressiva do ambiente e ecossistemas, patógenos exóticos estão emergindo com maior frequência, notadamente os coronavírus e o vírus ébola. A imensa e densa população de hospedeiros humanos no planeta nos torna vulneráveis a esses e outros patógenos. Novas pandemias estão por vir, e é urgente uma preparação global para combatê-las. A Covid-19 não levará a um colapso demográfico; sua fatalidade não afeta significativamente a mortalidade global anual, mas não é impossível que uma pandemia com potencial de extermínio populacional possa emergir.
RESUMO A Covid-19 como a influenza é uma infecção respiratória com alto nível de contágio e rápido espalhamento. Embora não tenha uma mortalidade alta, sua alta velocidade de contágio faz acumular rapidamente os casos graves na população geral, especialmente na população idosa, por conta de sua virulência atual. A pandemia da Covid-19 marca também a adaptação desse vírus às populações humanas, como as gripes sazonais e outros coronavírus que causam uma síndrome semelhante ao resfriado comum. É provável que futuramente o SARS-Cov-2 torne-se mais um dos coronavírus causadores dessa síndrome, evoluindo na direção da atenuação de sua virulência e assim persistir na ecologia humana.
