Objective: to identify the stress level in the students nursing program of a University of Vale do Paraíba. Method: a descriptive study of quantitative approach, conducted with 58 students from the fourth series of the undergraduate program in nursing. Data collection was performed by the application of open, closed and mixed questions. The questionnaire comprised two parts: identification and survey of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14). For statistical analysis we used the Fisher exact test. Data were tabulated and submitted to descriptive statistics, with use of the BioStat 5.0. The study was approved by the Ethics in Research of the University of Taubaté (CEP No. 564/09). Results: the level of stress scored 20 to 24 in 19 (32.77%) of undergraduates, indicating high levels of punctuation. As for Fisher's exact test, it was found that there was no significant difference (p = 0.05). Conclusion: the nursing graduates have high levels of stress, which indicates, in fact, that many students, or because they work concurrently with their studies, or an excess of academic activities, among other factors, are impaired in learning. A coleta foi realizada mediante aplicação de questões abertas, fechadas e mistas. O questionário era composto por duas partes: identificação e questionário da Escala de Estresse Percebido (PSS-14). Para análise estatística dos dados foi utilizado o teste exato de Fisher. Os dados foram tabulados e submetidos à estatística descritiva, com utilização do programa Bioestat 5.0. A pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em pesquisa da Universidade de Taubaté (CEP nº 564/09). Resultados: o nível de estresse obteve pontuação de 20 a 24 em 19 (32,77%) dos graduandos, indicando níveis altos de pontuação. Quanto ao teste exato de Fisher, constatou-se que não houve diferença significativa (p=0,05). Conclusão: os graduandos de enfermagem apresentam níveis altos de estresse, o que indica, de fato, que muitos estudantes, ou por trabalharem concomitantemente com os estudos, ou por excesso de atividades acadêmicas, entre outros fatores, são prejudicados no aprendizado. Los datos fueron tabulados y sometidos a la estadística descriptiva, con utilización del programa Bioestat 5.0. La investigación fue aprobada por Comité de Ética en investigación de la Universidad de Taubaté (CEP nº 564/09). Resultados: el nivel de estrese obteve pontuación de 20 a 24 en 19 (32,77%) de los graduandos, indicando niveles altos de pontuación. Cuanto al test exacto de Fisher, se constató que no hubo diferencia significativa (p=0,05). Conclusion: los graduandos de enfermería presentan niveles altos de estrese, lo que indica, de hecho, que muchos estudiantes, o por trabalhajar concomitantemente con los estudios, o por exceso de actividades académicas, entre otros hechos, son perjudicados en el aprendizado. Objective: identifying the content domain of the nursing staff that works in an Emergency Room on the compliance with cardiopulmonary arrest and CPR. Method: prospective, descriptive quantitative approach, carried out with 40 professionals from the nursing staff of a private hospital Emergency Room in Vale do Paraíba Paulista. The collection was achieved by applying the questionnaire with closed questions, being composed of two parts: identifying the research population and questionnaire based on literature. Data were tabulated and submitted to descriptive statistics. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the University of Taubaté (CEP No. 104/10). Results: about the adopted procedures, in a cardiac arrest, 17 (42.50%) responded Basic Life Support, and about Recognition, 35 (87.50%) responded to check the level of consciousness, breathing and pulse. In reference to the signs and symptoms that precede a cardiac arrest, 21 (52.5%) were unable to identify the classic signs and symptoms of a cardiac arrest. Conclusion: the nursing staff needs theoretical and practical training, neither to harm the victim and nor decrease the quality and efficiency of care. Método: pesquisa prospectiva e descritiva de abordagem quantitativa, realizada com 40 profissionais da equipe de enfermagem de uma Unidade de Pronto-socorro de um hospital privado da região do vale do Paraíba paulista. A coleta foi realizada mediante aplicação do questionário com questões fechadas, sendo composto por duas partes: identificação da população pesquisada e questionário elaborado com base na literatura. Os dados foram tabulados e submetidos à estatística descritiva. A pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em pesquisa da Universidade de Taubaté (CEP nº 104/10). Resultados: sobre qual atendimento adotar, em uma parada cardiorrespiratória, 17 (42,50%) responderam Suporte Básico de Vida e, quanto ao reconhecimento, 35 (87,50%) responderam verificar nível de consciência, respiração e pulso. Em referência aos sinais e sintomas que precedem uma parada cardiorrespiratória, 21 (52,5%) não souberam identificar os sinais e sintomas clássicos de uma parada cardiorrespiratória. Conclusão: a equipe de enfermagem precisa de capacitação teórica e prática, para não prejudicar a vítima e nem diminuir a qualidade e eficiência da assistência prestada. La cosecha de los datos fue realizada mediante aplicación de cuestionario con cuestiones cerradas, siendo compuesto por dos partes: identificación de la poblação investigada y cuestionario elaborado con base en la literatura. Los dados fueron tabulados y sometidos a la estadística descriptiva. La investigación fue aprobada por el Comité de Ética en pesquisa de la Universidad de Taubaté (CEP nº 104/10). Resultados: sobre cual atendimiento adoptar, en una parada cardiorrespiratoria, 17 (42,50%) respondieron Soporte Básico de Vida y, cuanto al reconocimiento, 35 (87,50%) respondieron verificar nivel de conciencia, respiración t pulso. En referencia a señales y síntomas que preceden una parada cardiorrespiratoria, 21 (52,5%) não supieron identificar las señales y síntomas clásicos de una parada cardiorrespiratoria. Conclusión: el equipo de enfermería precisa de capacitación teórica y práctica, para no perjudicar la vítima ni disminuir la calidad de eficácia de la asistencia prestada. Objective: to determine the sleep quality of undergraduate nursing students from a University of Vale do Paraíba. Method: this is a descriptive and quantitative research, approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the University of Taubaté, protocolo-452/2009. It is the accessibility sampling, conducted with 58 students from the third series of the degree course in nursing, all participants signed the consent form. Data were collected from November to December 2009, through the application of a questionnaire consisting of open, closed, and mixed questions. The questionnaire was composed by two parts: Part A - Identification, and Part B - Questionnaire Sleep Quality Index in Pittsburgh (PSQI). Data were tabulated and submitted to descriptive statistics. Results: the level of sleep quality obtained scores higher than five in 39 (67.24%) of nursing students, indicating poor sleep quality. Conclusion: the sleep quality is really bad. Many students, due to their irregular hours of sleep, have their sleep affected in a negative manner, failing to restore itself to the following day, which impairs performance in college and at work. É uma amostragem por acessibilidade com 58 graduandos da terceira série do Curso de Graduação em Enfermagem, os quais assinaram o termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido. Os dados foram coletados de novembro a dezembro de 2009, por meio da aplicação de um questionário constituído de questões abertas, fechadas e mistas. O questionário utilizado foi composto por duas partes: Parte A − Identificação e Parte B − questionário do Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh (IQSP). Os dados foram tabulados e submetidos à estatística descritiva. Resultados: o nível da qualidade do sono obteve escores maiores que cinco em 39 (67,24%) dos graduandos de Enfermagem, indicando qualidade de sono ruim. Conclusão: a qualidade do sono é de fato ruim. Muitos estudantes, por terem horas irregulares de sono, têm seu sono afetado de maneira negativa, não conseguindo se recuperar para o dia seguinte, o que compromete o desempenho na faculdade e no trabalho. El muestreo por accesibilidad fue realizado con 58 graduandos del tercer curso de la carrera de graduación en enfermería, los cuales firmaron el término de consentimiento libre y esclarecido. Los datos fueron recogidos en los meses de noviembre y diciembre de 2009, por medio de la aplicación de un cuestionario constituido de cuestiones abiertas, cerradas y mistas. El cuestionario utilizado fue compuesto por dos partes: Parte A − Identificación y Parte B − cuestionario del Índice de Calidad del Sueño de Pittsburgh (IQSP). Los datos fueron tabulados y sometidos a estadística descriptiva. Resultados: el nivel de la calidad del sueño obtuvo escores mayores que cinco en 39 (67,24%) de los graduandos de enfermería, indicando calidad de sueño malo. Conclusión: la calidad del sueño es de fato mala. Muchos estudiantes, por tener horas irregulares de sueño, tienen su sueño afectado de manera negativa, no consiguiendo restaurarse para el día siguiente, lo que compromete el desempeño en la facultad y en el trabajo.
