Determinamos el grado de comovimiento del empleo durante el ciclo económico entre las regiones de México mediante un análisis de la covarianza de las perturbacionesen los ciclos del empleo regional entre julio de 1997 y octubre de 2009. El empleo se mide por el número de trabajadores permanentes asegurados en el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. La descomposición en tendencia y ciclo y la matriz de varianza-covarianza de las perturbaciones en los ciclos del empleo regional se obtienen de la estimación —por el método de espacio de estados— de un modelo estructural multivariado de las series de empleo. Encontramos que, exceptuando a unas pocas regiones, el comovimiento del empleo es alto y que la varianza de las perturbaciones en los ciclos regionales está asociada mayormente con las fluctuaciones del empleo nacional. Sin embargo, no encontramos pruebas de un ciclo común subyacente, por lo que el comovimiento del empleo tendría su origen en la propagación interregional de choques específicos.
Resumen: Usando diversas medidas estadísticas estimamos el comovimiento y la sincronización cíclica del empleo formal en las entidades federativas mexicanas. Como medida del empleo formal utilizamos el número de trabajadores con contrato permanente asegurados en el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social en cada entidad federativa entre julio de 1997 y abril de 2009. Encontramos una gran heterogeneidad a nivel estatal en el grado de comovimiento del empleo y en la asociación entre el empleo estatal y el nacional. De los 32 estados del país, solamente en 11 de ellos, situados en la frontera norte, el centro oeste y el centro del país, encontramos que las fluctuaciones del empleo están altamente sincronizadas entre ellas y con las del empleo nacional. En 4 estados del centro del país, aledaños a Ciudad de México, también encontramos evidencia de comovimiento, aunque mucho menos fuerte. En el resto de los estados las fluctuaciones del empleo formal no guardan relación con las del empleo nacional o de otros estados.
