Resumen América Latina es una de las zonas en desarrollo más urbanizadas en el mundo. Hoy con un contexto globalizado donde las relaciones son cada vez más necesarias, los sistemas urbanos también deben buscar consolidar diferentes nodos conectados que permitan ampliar las oportunidades para toda la población. Por esto, el artículo busca analizar el papel de las ciudades intermedias en la organización de los sistemas urbanos nacionales de Colombia, Cuba y Guatemala. Para ello se desarrolla una investigación cualitativa que utiliza herramientas cuantitativas como la sintaxis espacial y el Análisis de Redes Sociales para identificar esas relaciones. Se concluye que son muy diferentes los casos analizados, en donde Guatemala muestra la mayor concentración y tal vez una menor consolidación de ciudades intermedias; Colombia también presenta una alta concentración urbana alrededor de tres ciudades principales, pero con ciudades intermedias que se conectan a ellas; y Cuba surge como el caso con una mayor distribución del sistema urbano, con presencia similar a lo largo del territorio de ciudades intermedias.
