À ma connaissance, le récit du parcours philosophique de Dominique Janicaud n'a jamais été réalisé. Sa pensée est délicate, subtile, profonde. C'est certainement l'une des grandes pensées philosophiques françaises dans le dernier tiers du XX e siècle. La présenter rapidement, dans un texte court, peut sembler impossible. Il faut essayer malgré tout, avec les risques de schématisation que cela comporte. Le but sera donc simplement ici de mieux comprendre le sens et la cohérence de sa pensée à travers une vue d'ensemble de son parcours philosophique.Le fil conducteur de ce parcours, je souhaiterais le mettre sous le signe de la marche et du chemin. Janicaud fait l'éloge de la promenade. Il insiste fortement sur la relation entre le mouvement du corps en marche et le mouvement de la pensée qui s'interroge. Selon lui, la marche et la philosophie vont ensemble, au profit d'un « équilibre existentiel » qui est une sorte de « sagesse » 1 . Hygiène du corps, hygiène de l'esprit. Pulsation des pas, rythme de la pensée. Dans tout son parcours, il aura été ce marcheur endurant en philosophie, qui nous précède, qui guide nos pas, et qui nous engage à poursuivre par nous-mêmes le chemin.Une marche procède par étapes. Pour la clarté de l'exposé, je distinguerai trois grandes périodes dans la vie et le chemin de pensée de Janicaud. Ces trois périodes correspondent, à mon avis, aux trois étapes assez clairement déterminées de son parcours philosophique.La première période est celle des années de formation. Cette étape du chemin de Janicaud peut se rassembler sous une formule simple : « À la découverte de Heidegger et de Hegel ». Les années de formation de Janicaud se caractérisent par de longues et brillantes études. Noesis, 29 | 2017Janicaud se décrit comme « profondément croyant », attiré par des auteurs, eux-mêmes profondément croyants, qui ont le souci de la métaphysique, comme Kierkegaard, Jaspers, Simone Weil et, surtout, Bergson. Il faut imaginer le jeune Janicaud adolescent d'abord séduit par Bergson, et « conciliant provisoirement » sa foi catholique avec « une philosophie du dynamisme vital » 7 . C'est alors qu'intervient un tournant décisif, la rencontre avec Jean Beaufret, en 1957, à l'âge de vingt ans. Beaufret était pour Janicaud un « lointain cousin ». À cette époque, Jean Beaufret était professeur de Khâgne au Lycée Henri IV, puis au Lycée Condorcet. Célèbre et prestigieux, il était le plus éminent interprète de Heidegger en France. Janicaud devient vite l'un de ses disciples. Au contact de Jean Beaufret, mais en conservant toujours une réelle distance critique, Janicaud découvre au plus près, et comme de l'intérieur, la pensée si difficile de Heidegger.
