Resumo. O objetivo central deste artigo é analisar a desigualdade de renda entre os trabalhadores dos principais setores da Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre no período de 1998 a 2008, decompondo-a por grupos de escolaridade. Para isso, utilizam-se os dados da PED-DIEESE e a decomposição de Dagum aplicada ao Índice de Gini. A desigualdade é decomposta dentro, entre e na transvariação de cada grupo. Os resultados mostram que a escolaridade é responsável por explicar grande parcela do Índice de Gini em todos os setores estudados. A desigualdade caiu na indústria, na construção civil, no comércio e na agricultura, tendo como exceção apenas o setor de serviços, com aumento de 0,03 pontos. Juntamente com a queda da desigualdade, houve queda na participação da escolaridade para explicá-la, excetuando-se também o setor de serviços, no qual sua participação teve aumento. The inequality is decomposed into within, between and transvariation. The results show that the schooling is responsible for explaining a large portion of the Gini across all sectors studied. Inequality fell in industry, construction and commerce. The only exception was in the service sector, which increased 0.03 points. Along with falling inequality, there was a decline in the share of education to explain it, except in the service sector, where its share has increased. Palavras
