Phenanthrene derivatives Q 1090Iron (III) Chloride Catalyzed Oxidative Coupling of Aromatic Nuclei. -In the presence of MCPBA and catalytic amounts of FeCl 3 , 2-naphthols and phenyl ethers undergo efficient dimerization to give binaphthols and biphenyl derivatives. Intramolecular oxidative coupling allows facile access to phenanthrene derivatives.
