A partir das investigações, iniciadas em 2016, acerca dos museus universitários existentes no campus Belém da Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA), identificamos mais de cinco espaços. Para este trabalho centramos nos museus localizados no Instituto de Ciências Biológicas (ICB): Museu de Anatomia Humana e Museu de Zoologia. Discutimos como esses espaços se enxergam – pois se autodenominam museu – e o que aparentam ser, com base nos conceitos de museu e coleção universitária coletados de bibliografias sobre o tema. Destacamos, também, se há visibilidade dos espaços dentro da universidade e qual o papel da museologia e dos museólogos nesses locais.
No Brasil, os museus universitários surgiram a partir da incorporação de instituições existentes ou através da criação de museus interligados ao ambiente universitário. Estes espaços têm particularidades que os diferenciam dos demais museus, porém, sem excluir as definições adotadas em esfera maior. Na Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA), existem cerca de 12 espaços que se mostram como museus ou coleções universitárias. Por este número significativo, o questionamento que norteia o trabalho é quais são as ações que estes locais promovem, considerando o ambiente universitário e a tríade universitária de ensino, pesquisa e extensão que rege as universidades brasileiras. O objetivo é apresentar quais ações os museus e coleções universitárias da UFPA desenvolvem. As informações foram coletadas a partir de documentos institucionais e dos sites dos institutos e do Portal da UFPA, com o propósito de observar como esses lugares são citados e de que maneira são retratados. Os resultados indicam que nem todas as áreas são citadas por seus institutos ou pela própria universidade, mesmo que desenvolvam atividades que contribuem para o ensino, pesquisa e extensão. Museus e coleções universitárias podem contribuir para a difusão científica, cultural e tecnológica, elevando a visibilidade da diversidade de coleções da instituição, no entanto, o reconhecimento desses locais é fundamental para a viabilização do seu desenvolvimento e para o crescimento da universidade.
