La estrategia de innovación imitativa es utilizada por algunas organizaciones como una fuente de ventaja competitiva en un mercado que evoluciona día a día y de forma veloz. El objetivo del presente artículo, es realizar un acercamiento y estudio de las posiciones de diversos autores, y revisar argumentos que posibiliten un espacio para generar el desarrollo de nuevas contribuciones. Se realiza un análisis comparativo entre las hipótesis identificadas, y posteriormente se relacionan dichas hipótesis utilizando algunas variables. Finalmente, se concluye que las estrategias pueden variar en gran medida de una organización a otra, principalmente por el hecho de que las dinámicas y relaciones en materia de tecnología y mercado son singulares dentro de cada compañía, pero es necesario que se preparen para enfrentar los cambios del entorno con estrategias de innovación estructuradas y acordes con su cultura organizacional; además se evidencia la necesidad de profundizar en investigaciones y realizar más estudios prácticos referentes al tema, sobretodo en Latinoamérica.
