El estudio reproductivo de Mesodesma donacium LAMARCK, 1818 de la localidad de Pozo Lisas, ubicada en el puerto de llo-Moquegua, ha sido realizado en el periodo comprendido entre abril 1992 y marzo 1993.
El material biológico estuvo constituido por 1800 ejemplares de Mesodesma donacium que han sido obtenidos mensualmente del banco natural ubicado en la playa arenosa de Pozo Lisas. La proporción sexual fue de 1:1 y la talla máxima encontrada fue de 92.5 mm. El ciclo reproductivo comprende tres estados: inmaduro (marzo-julio), maduro (agosto-octubre) y en desove (todo el año, con mayor frecuencia en noviembre y febrero). La primera madurez sexual se manifiesta a los 60.0 mm. de longitud total, siendo el promedio de individuos maduros de 77.2 mm.
El presente estudio constituye una parte de la biología reproductiva del "chanque" Concholepas concholepas (Bruguiére, 1789) de la zona litoral de Tacna, incidiendo en los aspectos de primera madurez sexual, periodo de desove y ciclo reproductivo anual. Los resultados servirán de base para regularizar la actividad extractiva de este recurso en dicha zona, estableciendo los tamaños mínimos de extracción y el periodo de veda correspondiente.
El estudio reproductivo de Thais chocolata (Duclós, 1832), fue realizado entre marzo 1992 y febrero 1993. El material biológico estuvo constituido por 1800 ejemplares obtenidos mensualmente de los bancos naturales ubicados entre Puerto de llo y Punta Coles (Moquegua). El ciclo reproductivo comprende tres estadías: previtelogénesis (abril, junio y octubre); vitelogénesis (marzo-abril, junio a febrero), y la estadío de postura (en mayo en mayor porcentaje, y en agosto y noviembre en menor porcentaje). La proporción sexual fue de 1:1 y la talla máxima establecida de 88.5mm. La primera madurez sexual se presentó a los 40 mm de longitud total, donde la longitud promedio anual del estado maduro es de 57.5mm.
