Résumé S’intéressant aux conditions pratiques dans lesquelles s’effectuent les parcours de coureurs marocains dans l’athlétisme français, l’article montre que leur carrière athlétique est indissociable de leur trajectoire d’immigrés. Soulignant à quel prix – individuel et collectif – se construit le succès international de quelques rares élus, l’enquête ethnographique met en évidence que le sport n’est pas forcément une voie « royale » d’ascension sociale pour les populations dominées.

Monter en première division Trajectoires de notabilisation des présidents de clubs de football professionnel (1960-1999) Manuel schotté Résumé-Majoritairement composée de chefs d'entreprise d'envergure régionale, la population des présidents de clubs de football professionnel français est un cas sociologique particulièrement intéressant. Issus de familles modestes et se caractérisant par la faiblesse de leur diplôme, ces hommes échappent en effet aux modes de (re)production des élites les plus courants. Là où, dans la France de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle, les voies d'accès aux positions dominantes sont très largement déterminées par l'institution scolaire et/ou par l'héritage familial, ils constituent une population atypique, caractérisée par l'originalité du chemin parcouru par ses membres pour arriver à une position éminente. Alors que la littérature s'est jusqu'à présent focalisée sur les cas de mobilité par l'École, l'article souligne qu'on a affaire à une modalité très différente d'ascension, qui repose sur d'autres atouts et d'autres circuits de légitimation. En montrant que l'accès à la visibilité nationale de ces petits patrons devenus grands procède d'une longue trajectoire de notabilisation fortement ancrée localement, le texte entend tout à la fois rendre compte de formes de mobilité peu étudiées et fournir des éléments de caractérisation d'un groupe délaissé par les travaux, celui de la petite-bourgeoisie d'affaires.
