El objetivo de este estudio es determinar el grado de adecuación terapéutica de los usuarios institucionalizados en una residencia sociosanitaria y los factores asociados.En los aspectos metodológicos se trata de un estudio descriptivo transversal, realizado en la Residencia para Personas Mayores “Los Molinos” en Mota del Cuervo, provincia de Cuenca (España). La muestra está formada por 53 usuarios identificados mediante aleatorización simple. Se recogieron datos relativos a la edad, sexo, el tipo y número de prescripciones, la valoración de la situación funcional y cognitiva y la intervención del Médico Facultativo Especialista de Área en Geriatría.Los resultados presentan la prevalencia de pacientes polimedicados (cinco o más fármacos) que es del 88.7%. La puntuación media del IAM (Índice de Adecuación al Medicamento) es 6.6 (DE: 5.3). Se ha podido constatar significación estadística de la influencia que ejerce el número de fármacos en la adecuación terapéutica (p< 0.001). En el resto de variables, se ha observado una relación importante pero sin significación estadística.Se puede decir por tanto, como conclusión, que la adecuación terapéutica de la población estudiada, es aceptable. Hay que destacar el interés de estos estudios en geriatría.

AbstractObjective: To determine the degree of therapeutic appropriateness of the status of residents in a social and health care residence, and the associated factors.Patients and method: Cross-sectional study, conducted at the "Los Molinos" Residence for the Elderly in Mota del Cuervo, Cuenca Province (Spain). The sample consisted of 53, randomly identified, users. Data were collected on age, sex, type and number of prescriptions, assessment of functional and cognitive status, and interventions of the Geriatric Registrar.Results: The prevalence of polypharmacy patients (five or more drugs) was 88.7%. The mean MAI (Medication Appropriateness Index) was 6.6 (SD 5.3). The relationship of the number of drugs with the therapeutic appropriateness was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001).
