Cada vez más descubrimientos científicos evidencian que el periodo prenatal es uno de los fundamentales en la vida del ser humano. En él, la persona construye las bases de su salud, de su afectividad, de su equilibrio, de sus capacidades de relación, de su inteligencia, de su creatividad. Lo hace por medio de los materiales físicos y psicológicos aportados por su madre o del entorno mediados por ella. Pero no sólo eso. La madre, con sus pensamientos, sus sentimientos, su forma de vivir, sus estados interiores, puede, intencionalmente, educar al niño antes de su nacimiento. Puede promover el despertar de todas sus capacidades latentes y en incipiente desarrollo, ya sean de orden físico, emocional, intelectual o ético. Informar de ello a los futuros padres y formarles en este sentido parece un imperativo didáctico de una emergente Pedagogía Prenatal. Su reto epistemológico consistiría en investigar para generar conocimiento y teoría científica que, en última instancia y junto a contribuciones de ciencias biológicas y de la salud, permitiera el desarrollo de una educación prenatal social y profesional fundada. Desde ella podría aspirarse a facilitar a las personas mejores condiciones de desarrollo y de educación a lo largo de su vida, tanto personal como socialmente. Esta educación podría efectuarse ya desde las propuestas curriculares y las programaciones didácticas de las escuelas, colegios e institutos, transmitiendo a los futuros posibles padres y madres toda esta riqueza, basada en evidencia científica, tanto de la Pedagogía Prenatal como de otras disciplinas biosanitarias. Para todo ello, es fundamental que estos conocimientos se integren paulatinamente, en primera instancia, en la formación de investigadores, profesionales de la educación y en las familias.
En la actualidad, existe un amplio consenso sobre la importancia de la primera infancia, y sobre los enormes beneficios de toda índole que se derivan de una adecuada atención a este periodo de la vida humana. Pues bien, desde hace algunas décadas numerosas investigaciones científicas evidencian que dichos beneficios son aún mayores cuando dicha atención se presta en la fase prenatal, a través de la madre embarazada. La recopilación de estos conocimientos, difundidos de una manera sencilla para que puedan ser llevados a la práctica de una manera natural en la vida diaria de las futuras madres y de los futuros padres (desde antes de la concepción, en la concepción, durante la gestación, el parto/nacimiento y el periodo de lactancia), es lo que podemos denominar como Educación Prenatal. Esta Educación Prenatal de la que hablamos se opera a través de procesos naturales, y no ha de ser confundida, en absoluto, con conceptos tales como estimulación, instrucción, aprendizaje o adoctrinamiento prenatales. Por ello podemos denominarla también “Educación Prenatal Natural“. A pesar de su tremenda importancia, todos estos conocimientos (surgidos de numerosas investigaciones, como acabamos de apuntar) están aún lejos de ser conocidos e integrados de forma mayoritaria. Es indispensable, pues, llevar a cabo una amplia labor de información, formación, difusión y sensibilización, para suscitar una toma de conciencia colectiva sobre la importancia del periodo prenatal, fundamento de la persona, periodo que incluye la preparación a la concepción, la concepción, la gestación y el parto/nacimiento. La participación de las Ciencias de la Educación en esta labor, y en especial de la Pedagogía, puede ser crucial. Desde esta compleja y amplia disciplina, así como desde ámbitos relacionados, cabe promover variadas iniciativas. En este artículo se exponen algunas propuestas para la enseñanza, formación y difusión de la Educación Prenatal en Iberoamérica. Toda vez, por otra parte, que Iberoamérica es una de las regiones del mundo donde mayor calado está teniendo este creciente interés por el periodo prenatal.
