Un intento fallido de promoción, seguido del primer nombramiento para un cargo judicial: Alcalde de Casa y Corte La primera prueba documental que ha llegado hasta nosotros respecto de la protección concedida por el conde de Aranda a Juan Acedo es de 5 de julio de 1766. Ese día la Cámara de Castilla votó a las personas que debían ser propuestas al Rey a fin de que éste nombrara de entre los propuestos al que debía ocupar el cargo de Fiscal de la Sala de Alcaldes de Casa y Corte 39 .Fueron propuestos los siguientes juristas: en primer lugar el conde de Balazote, en segundo lugar Rafael de Bustamante, y el tercer puesto fue adjudicado a Gerónimo Velarde (Fiscal de la Audiencia de Asturias desde el año 1762).Pero, a nuestros efectos, el dato relevante es que el Presidente de la Cámara de Castilla (y Presidente del Consejo de Castilla), que era el conde de Aranda, propuso a Juan Acedo para el tercer lugar, siendo éste el único voto obtenido por Acedo. Así consta en el correspondiente acuerdo de la Cámara de Castilla de 5 de julio de 1766:"Para este tercero lugar, el Presidente del Consejo [propuso] a D. Juan Acedo Rico, Abogado de los Reales Consejos y uno de los del Sr. Infante D. Luis, para los pleitos y negocios tocantes a las encomiendas y estados que goza S. A." 40 .
