Compulsory treatment has had a detrimental impact on drug abuse treatment policies and programs in Iran. Physicians are currently required to conduct initial treatment screening. Social workers are a part of the treatment team but have no authority to initiate a compulsory drug treatment plan. For this reason, the present article investigates social work service participation in the process of compulsory drug treatment. The study methodology is content analysis. Nine social workers participated in seven focus group discussions. Overall, 110 codes were extracted from the sessions and were categorized into five main themes: interview and initial assessment; referral; investigation of ineligibility criteria; report to judicial authority; and follow‐up and advocacy. The results of this research suggest amending executive bylaws based on a social work approach to the screening process for compulsory drug treatment.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of social group work interventions with cognitive behavioral approach on social competence in physically disabled adolescents. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test and control group design. The statistical population included physically disabled adolescents aged 13-18 years who were referred to the Center of Rehabilitation and Vocational Training in Sanandaj City, Iran, to participate in educational programs. To this end, 30 physically disabled adolescents were selected based on inclusion criteria and were divided into 2 matching groups (intervention and control). Social competence questionnaire was completed by both groups at the beginning and at the end of training. The intervention group was trained for 8 weeks in terms of social competence, whereas the control group received no special training. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS. The Chi-square, Independent samples t-test, and Paired t test were used to verify the study assumptions. Results: Comparing the intervention group with the controls before and after training reveled that teaching patients with cognitive behavioral strategies had a significant impact on increasing their social competence (Mean±SD, 181.66±17.88 versus 120.93±10.47; P=0.0001) and its dimensions (cognitive, behavioral, emotional and motivational) of the former group. Discussion: It seems that one of the efficient methods to increase social competence among physically disabled adolescents is cognitive behavioral therapy within the social group work. Thus, coaches and teachers of this group are recommended to use this method, to increase their social competence and subsequently increasing their presence in public areas.
The aim of the present study is to identify problems of children of fathers involved in substance abuse, in order to provide some basic guidelines and practical suggestions on reducing the problem and strengthening the children's resilience. The present study employed content analysis, a qualitative research method. The population consisted of children of substance abusing fathers. The study was conducted using a purposive sampling refined by a theoretical sampling of 28 children who participated in the study. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. The trustworthiness of this study was evaluated by the four criteria: creditability, dependability, conformability, and transferability. Seven categories of children's problems were found in the FGD and depth interviews. These categories included: Negative attitude toward oneself, Parental support disorder, Accept the role of the misfortune hero, Violence and maltreatment, The drama of chaos, Family routine/ Disorganization, Exclusion and isolation. The findings of this study indicated that the quality of parental-child relationship and between parents are not satisfied. Domestic Violence is one of the obvious signs of family problems. The offenders often seem to lack emotional involvement with family numbers. The Majority of children in the study had low self-confidence.
