The purpose of this research focuses on examining the consumers' perception towards corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a developing country via the case of Vietnam. This study was conducted by face-to-face interview, and the questionnaire was mailed directly to consumers who are living in the urban and rural areas in Vietnam. The findings of this research are to clarify consumers' perception of CSR issues in Vietnam based on four dimensions of the CSR definition by Carroll in 1991. Therefore, the results are useful for future researchers about CSR and consumers' perception in a developing country. Although, there have been some previous studies about consumers' perception in both developed and developing countries have been chosen. However, this study has applied Carroll's definition with other approach and compared it with other articles that aim to fill this knowledge gap in Vietnam because Vietnam can represent other developing countries nowadays; besides, those results allow enterprises to understand Vietnamese consumers' perception better.
PurposeThis article aims to evaluate total quality management (TQM)-enabling factors' impact on corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and business performance through evidence from Vietnamese coffee firms.Design/methodology/approachBased on collecting data via in-depth face-to-face interviews with employees, who are working in the Vietnamese coffee companies. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach has been employed to investigate the relationship among the TQM-enabling factors, corporate social performance (CSP) and business performance.FindingsA total of 13 TQM-enabling factors have been identified and divided into two categories, namely human and functional. The statistical results revealed a positive signal to remarkably enhance CSP and business performance by adopting those TQM-enabling factors into Vietnamese coffee firms.Research limitations/implicationsThe framework model of this research should be evaluated in different contexts worldwide or in another sector that can further identify the TQM-enabling factor and the correlation among these constructs.Practical implicationsThis article provides top managers of Vietnamese coffee firms with knowledge of TQM-enabling factors that may enable them to meet superior performance, including CSP, finance and reputation.Originality/valueThis is a unique study to employ the approach into the Vietnamese coffee industry context up-to-date, which is one of the essential sectors affecting Vietnam's sustainable development.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the critical parameters of the Vietnam coffee industry and develop a comprehensive structural relationship to rank them for effective sustainable development. Design/methodology/approach The team of ten experts, having experience of over eight years in the field of various coffee industries in Vietnam, was created to give scores to multiple parameters. Technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) technique is used to develop the model for fifteen key parameters and then to rank them. Findings From the data analysis and results, marketing and brand innovation, product quality, strategic planning and implementation have emerged as top three key parameters while new technology development, supply chain and logistics management, and alliance-joint venture are identified as the bottom three parameters. The findings provide a rank of parameters that help to other coffee industries to identify their key parameters. Besides, the key parameters defined as necessary inputs show the firms more active and well-prepared comprised of ten companies. Practical implications The key parameters of the success of any organization are essential contributions. Aiming to improve organizational performance, metrics should be identified as the source of strength to achieve high productivity, profitability and sustainable business performance. Originality/value The emphasis of study on key parameters will help organizations to achieve competitive advantage and high productivity for high sustainability in an organizational context.
PurposeThis paper aims to systematically review the university social responsibility (USR) implementation from the empirical studies, which published during the period from 2004 to 2020.Design/methodology/approachThe bibliometric method has been employed to review prior empirical research on higher education social responsibility topics.FindingsThese synthesis results confirmed that USR initiatives as an excellent tool to attain sustainability and enhance university performance worldwide. Universities in developed nations underline paying more attention to the core values in the long-term; meanwhile, their counterparts in transitional countries to pay more attention to short-term activities by focusing on stakeholders.Research limitations/implicationsThe notable limitation is that in terms of the number of empirical papers employed as the data to analyze in this manuscript.Practical implicationsThis paper's findings have described the USR implementations and how well to define USR adoption from the empirical studies globally. Thus, it has theoretical implications in enriching the USR knowledge and providing useful guidance for universities, then recommend new research directions in the future for other scholars.Originality/valueThis research is an initial attempt to systematize studies on USR implementation in universities between developed countries and developing nations.
PurposeThis research presents a study on the supply chain process of an Indian apparel industry considering various parameters involved. The study aims to identify the main parameters to improve the supply chain process and develop a comprehensive structural relationship to rank them to streamline the apparel supply chain process and business environment.Design/methodology/approachThe team of five experts from this apparel industry was made to give scores to multiple parameters. The TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) technique is used to develop the model for eleven key parameters and then rank them.FindingsBased on the data analysis the planning, customer and warehouse storage have emerged as top three key parameters while the non-replenishment approach, push and pull strategy and manufacturing of the product are identified as the bottom three parameters from a hierarchy level. These parameters have been ranked based on their contributing attributes in this apparel supply chain process.Research limitations/implicationsThe study provides an overall ranking of parameters and the implications are in the direction of helping the industry to improve its supply chain performances rather than focus only on productivity. Further, the key parameters are identified as critical inputs and show that the firms are being more proactive and well prepared comprised of the industry.Originality/valueThe study indicates that the key parameters are identified by this apparel brand to improve its supply chain process. The key supply chain process involves planning, manufacturing, distribution, end customer and returns logistics of the goods, etc. So, this research also provides the focused parameters on the supply chain performance received by end customer from the supplier and rank them for effectiveness and improve their overall organizational performance. It also provides a critical observation of their supply chain process improvement which includes different brand uses, strategies and approaches.
Green initiatives have been widely introduced and have contributed to attaining sustainability and improving performance for supply chain management. However, only a few studies focus on green supply chain management (GSCM) practices in Vietnam. Hence, this work is the first study modeling the challenges in implementing green initiatives in the Vietnamese manufacturing supply chain. The authors aim to identify the fundamental challenges and evaluate the cross-interactions among them. The Interpretive Structural Model (ISM) method has been employed, based on experts’ perspectives, to clarify which factor is the most potent challenge. Consequently, seven major challenge clusters have been identified, and they were divided into nineteen sub-challenges. Meanwhile, the authors evaluated their interrelationships based on the hierarchical structure diagram and the Matrice d’Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliquée á un Classement (MICMAC) analysis. It is observed that the “Financial Costs” elements group is the most difficult, followed by the lack of the Vietnamese government’s green regulation and the lack of senior managers’ support. The “Information” challenges cluster is considered as the middle bridge between the strong and weak elements. At the end of the diagram, two challenges are a lack of training courses about implementing GSCM and a lack of customer awareness and pressure about GSCM. Hence, these findings will become valuable suggestions for the top managers of Vietnamese manufacturers to make blueprint decisions.
The Company's CEOs are always obsessed with diversification since the early 1960s and this belief is continuing to date. Diversified corporations run multiple businesses to generate various opportunities to gain competitive advantages and differentiate themselves in the market. This study considered the business strategy of business units (BUs) for diversified corporations. Based on the dominating strategy pursued by BUs, this study tried to investigate the level of collaboration between the BUs when these BUs have a similar strategy or different strategy. Thus, this article aims to examine the level of collaboration or coordination between BUs in Indian diversified companies. A survey was carried out with 107 companies for examination and these companies were chosen to be of different sizes and sectors. The findings represent that the level of collaboration is high when the BUs have a similar kind of business strategy while the level of collaboration is low when they have different kinds of business strategies. These findings are useful for the current organizations to seek collaboration between BUs in the diversified corporation.
Sustainability concerns are rising as an interesting topic in both academia and industry. Many scholars revealed that green innovation is an excellent solution to enable organizations to achieve various benefits, such as enhancing their reputation and competitive advantages. Thus, this is the first study in Vietnam to consider the barriers to implementing green innovation. The research aims to identify the obstacles to green innovation practices in the Vietnamese manufacturing sector. The interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach has been conducted to provide the interactions among the green innovation implementation barriers. The authors ground this study to bridge the theoretical and practical for green innovation practices in the Vietnam situation. Based on the experts’ perspectives, they proposed that Vietnamese manufacturers must deal with thirteen essential barriers to green innovation adoption. Further, six interaction levels and the MICMAC analysis clarified cross-relationships among challenges by evaluating the driving and dependence power. Indeed, the empirical results emphasized that financial capability constraints and lack of government support are the most decisive challenges. In contrast, market competition and uncertainty concern is the easiest obstacle to address by the Vietnamese manufacturers. Therefore, this study has provided some insightful contributions for the top managers and other scholars to consider.
