El presente trabajo tematiza la centralidad de la imagen en la contemporaneidad, atendiendo a la problemática del lazo social desde el psicoanálisis lacaniano. En este sentido, se partirá del anudamiento borromeano entre los registros real, simbólico e imaginario, interrogándose acerca de la distinción entre semblante y simulacro, y su articulación con el pseudodiscurso capitalista y el avance de las tecnociencias.
Judith Butler ha puesto en cuestión, en diversos momentos de su obra, la operación por la cual el psicoanálisis –y, específicamente, la tradición lacaniana– borraría la historicidad de ciertos conceptos al postularlos como transhistóricos. El registro de “lo real”, tal como es articulado en el discurso de Jacques Lacan y sus sucesores, supondría, según Butler, el ocultamiento de su producción simbólica, epocal. Este escrito versa precisamente sobre algunos cuestionamientos específicos que la autora norteamericana le ha hecho a la tradición lacaniana en relación con el problema de la historicidad de los conceptos, centrándose en la discusión que ha desarrollado con el campo psicoanalítico en general, y la escuela eslovena en particular.
