The subject matter of the present paper pertains to issues associated with the significance of university social responsibility. The paper outlines theoretical concepts and results of own studies connected with activities undertaken by a socially responsible university. Actions which take stakeholders' expectations into consideration are regarded as responsible. Consequently, vocational training of university graduates constitutes the focus of the paper. Results of own studies indicated several discrepancies between the expected and acquired competences of university graduates.

Introduction. The paper discusses the issue of vocational skills amongst students of university studies in tourism and recreation at the Josef Pilsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Biała Podlaska. The objective of the research, whose results are presented in the current paper, was to diagnose the results of studies at undergraduate and postgraduate level in relation to their knowledge, skills and social competencies. Material and methods. Research was carried out in June 2012 by means of a diagnostic poll using the random survey technique. The survey encompassed students graduating from undergraduate and graduate programmes (N=199). Results. Analyses indicated that students of both programmes evaluate their knowledge and skills acquired in the course of studies as low. On the other hand, students evaluated their social competencies, in particular those connected with the university's profile, as high. According to respondents' declarations, the level of knowledge, skills and other competencies acquired in the course of undergraduate and graduate studies does not fully meet respondents' requirements.
The subject matter of the present paper pertains to human capital of university graduates in the context of universities' social responsibility. The paper makes a premise that the responsibility revolves around proper preparation of graduates for undertaking prospective professional and social roles. The objective of the paper is to present selected aspects of human capital of university graduates emerging from actions undertaken by a socially responsible university. The paper makes a reference to survey studies aimed at evaluating knowledge, skills, social attitudes, and employment conditions of graduates of selected universities in Lublin. Results of analyses indicate that modern universities ought to embrace a greater responsibility for parties participating in higher education process, including care for their qualifications, professional competences, and those encompassing substantive scope and personality. By doing so, they will contribute to challenges in the context of social responsibility being coped with, which, in turn, will foster the development of human capital.
