Sesame seed (Sesamum indicum L) oil is an excellent source of unsaturated fatty acids and secondary metabolites. Most commonly used in Eastern countries, easily available and cheap source of essential nutrients. Objective: To identify scientific evidence regarding the hypolipidemic effect of sesame seed oil and its derivatives. Elevated levels of plasma lipids and cholesterol is known as hyperlipidemia, increased lipids levels are directly associated with vascular and metabolic disorders. Hyperlipidemia is the most common risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. Sesame seed oil is loaded in vitamin E, sesamin, sesamolin, sesamol, lignans, and phytoestrogen, these constituents have the potential to reduce hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, and elevated triglycerides levels. They also act as antioxidants to prevent lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress. The mechanism behind the hypolipidemic effect of sesame seed oil is its ability to increase superoxide dismutase SOD and glutathione peroxidase (antioxidants), reduction in triglycerides, and Malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration. MDA is the end product of lipid peroxidation and triggers lipid accumulation in blood. It has been studied that Sesaminol diglucoside helps to reduce white fat deposition by increasing the conversion of fat into brown fat. Conclusions: Results suggest that sesame seed oil is highly effective to manage hyperlipidemia and dyslipidemia due to its lipid ameliorating and anti-oxidative effect
Worldwide, in a working-age population the tuberculosis poses a vital health care load among young adults. As the prevalence of tuberculosis increased, therate of morbidity and mortality also increased. The objective of the study was to assess the awareness regarding hygienic practices among tuberculosis patients visiting Tertiary Care Hospital Lahore. A cross-sectional study was carried out at the chest department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore during November-2018 to January- 2019.A sample of 100 samples of tuberculosis patients was selected through nonprobability convenient sampling technique. Patients were assessed through pre-tested questionnaire. SPSS version 21.0 was used for data analysis. Among 100 participants, 55 patients were female and 45 patients were male. The prevalence of extra pulmonary TB is more in female 33% than male 21%. The mean age of the patients was 35 years. 63% TB patients cannot covered their face with mask when they cough or sneeze; 37 % TB patients had covered their faces with mask when they cough or sneeze. Total 79% TB patient’s houses were good ventilated while 21% TB patient’s houses or rooms were not ventilated. It was concluded that an increased family size, poor hygienic environment and low socioeconomic status were major determinants of tuberculosis
One of the major and most common diseases of the stomach is peptic ulcer. It occurs when the mucus secretion in the stomach decreases, acid secretion increases or both at the same time. There are multiple dietary and lifestyle factors that can cause peptic ulcers. However, peptic ulcers can be treated by consuming a balanced diet along with medications. Objective: Assessment of dietary intake among patients with peptic ulcers. Methods: The assessment was carried out at Services hospital, Lahore. A sample of 100 patients aged between 20-80 years was taken by using non-probability convenient sampling. Data was collected with the help of pre-tested questionnaire and was analyzed by using SPSS version 21.0. Results: The results showed that chapatti was most commonly consumed by peptic ulcer patients from the carbohydrates group. Most patients consumed milk and chicken from the protein group while fats were not consumed in abundance. Fruits and vegetables made an integral part of the weekly dietary intake of the patients. Conclusions: Patients with peptic ulcers cannot consume spicy foods and fried items. In order to achieve complete cure, they tend to consume foods that provide satiety and do not cause any discomfort. A balanced diet along with proper medication can help alleviate symptoms of peptic ulcers.
