The density, the reproduction, and the larval development of meroplankton are directly related to food availability (phytoplankton), which in turn, mainly depends on nutrients concentration, on temperature, and salinity. This study aimed to make a survey of the meroplankton community of Goiabal Beach and analyze the quali/quantitative seasonal variations. The survey was performed in four samplings conducted between 2014 and 2016, and the samples were collected using a plankton net coupled to a flow meter. Two minutes' horizontal-superficial drags were performed, and the samples were fixed on 4% buffered formalin in 250 ml glass pots. Immediately after drags, the temperature, the salinity, and the turbidity were measured. After the analysis, six phyla were verified: Ectoprocta, Echinodermata, Annelida, Chordata, Arthropoda, and Mollusca. The most abundant larvae were the polychaete, and the density of the organisms varied importantly during the study.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
