Sugarcane ethanol is produced at large scale generating wastes that could be used for microalgae biomass production in a biorefinery strategy. In this study, forty microalgae strains were screened for growth in sugarcane vinasse at different concentrations. Two microalgae strains, Micractinium sp. Embrapa|LBA32 and C. biconvexa Embrapa|LBA40, presented vigorous growth in a light-dependent manner even in undiluted vinasse under non-axenic conditions. Microalgae strains presented higher biomass productivity in vinasse-based media compared to standard Bold's Basal Medium in cultures performed using 15L airlift flat plate photobioreactors. Chemical composition analyses showed that proteins and carbohydrates comprise the major fractions of algal biomass. Glucose was the main monosaccharide detected, ranging from 46% to 76% of the total carbohydrates content according to the strain and culture media used. This research highlights the potential of using residues derived from ethanol plants to cultivate microalgae for the production of energy and bioproducts.
ResumoO estudo de diversidade genética permite a formação de grupos heteróticos, os quais são importantes para direcionar cruzamentos e derivar populações segregantes em programas de melhoramento.Neste sentido, objetivou-se com o presente estudo, determinar a correlação entre atributos produtivos, bem como a divergência genética de progênies de meios-irmãos de milho-pipoca nas condições do cerrado tocantinense. Para isso, conduziu-se um experimento na Universidade Federal do Tocantins, campus Gurupi, no delineamento em blocos casualizados com três repetições, onde os tratamentos foram compostos de 40 progênies de meios-irmãos de milho-pipoca, oriundas da população de milho-pipoca UFT. As progênies de meios-irmãos apresentaram ampla variabilidade genética com relação tanto a capacidade de expansão quanto a produtividade de grãos. As medidas de dissimilaridade genética, estimadas a partir da distância de Mahalanobis apresentaram elevada magnitude, o que também comprovou ampla variabilidade genética. O estudo permitiu concluir que há variabilidade genética entre as progênies de meios-irmãos de milho-pipoca, e essa permite a identificação de progênies dissimilares e com médias de produtividade e capacidade de expansão comercialmente aceitáveis. Abstract Strategies for selection among half-sibling popcorn progeniesin Cerrado soil of Tocantins, BrazilThe study of genetic diversity allows the formation of heterotic groups, which are important to direct crosses and to derive segregating populations in breeding programs. In this sense, the objective with this study was to determine the correlation between productive attributes, as well as the genetic divergence of half-sibling progenies of popcorn corn in the conditions of the cerrado of Tocantins, Brazil. For this, an experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal do Tocantins, campusGurupi, in a randomized block design with three replicates, where the treatments were composed of 40 progenies of half-sibs of popcorn, originating from the population UFT popcorn. The half-sib progenies showed great variability with respect to both expansion capacity and grain yield. The measures of genetic dissimilarity, calculated from the Mahalanobis distance showed high magnitude which also demonstrated wide genetic variability. The study concluded that there is genetic variability among half-sib progenies of popcorn and this allows identification of dissimilar progeny and average productivity and expansion capacity commercially acceptable.
