Cu and Zn‐doped Cu ferrites were synthesized by sol–gel auto‐combustion method. The samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, VSM, FT‐IR, and DRS methods. Powder XRD analysis and FT‐IR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of ferrites spinel phase. The crystallite sizes were calculated using Scherrer's equation. The morphologies and sizes of the synthesized nanoparticles have been observed by scanning electron microscopy. The saturation magnetization (MS) is obtained from VSM data. The energy band gaps were calculated from UV–DRS absorption data. Removal of Direct Red 264 was carried out by CuFe2O4 and Zn‐doped CuFe2O4 as catalysts under a visible lamp. Photocatalytic degradation of direct red 264 under visible light using NiFe2O4 and Zn‐doped NiFe2O4 nanoparticles was the primary goal of this work. Hence, NiFe2O4 and Zn‐doped NiFe2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol–gel auto combustion method. The powder X‐ray diffraction pattern unveiled the formation of spinel phase of NiFe2O4 with the average crystallite size determined from the Scherrer equation. The FTIR spectra of the samples revealed the vibration bands of Fe–O and Ni–O. The morphology and size of the synthesized nanoparticles have been observed by scanning electron microscopy. The band gap calculated using Kubelka–Munk function from the UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectra. The aim of this work is the synthesis of Ni-doped MgFe 2 O 4 ferrite as a robust, safe and magnetically recoverable catalyst by sol-gel auto-combustion method to catalyze oxidation of benzyl alcohol. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR and VSM. An environmentally benign oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with hydrogen peroxide as oxidant and Ni-doped MgFe 2 O 4 as catalysts was treated under solvent-free condition in microwave condition. Ni-doped MgFe 2 O 4 showed convenient catalytic activity. The resulting product was characterized by FT-IR and 1 H-NMR. This catalyst can be recovered and reused.
